Another political couple bites the dust. According to CNN, Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife Tipper Gore said that they have decided to separate.
“We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate,” the Gores said in an email to friends. “This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.”
Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider confirmed the couple’s separation. The Gores were married in 1970 and have four grown children. Vice President Al Gore served alongside former President Bill Clinton in the White House from 1993 until 2001. Gore ran for president in 2000 but the Supreme Court voted in favor of George W. Bush when Bush won more electoral votes despite Gore winning more popular votes.
In recent years, the former vice president has become a leading voice warning about the dangers of global warming. His film, An Inconvenient Truth, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary. Tipper is an author and photographer. She also was an advocate for the labeling of profane language on CDs in the music industry.
Right now we don’t have any scandalous details about this breakup…I hope it’s not another John Edwards situation!
