Ted Koppel’s Son, Andrew Koppel Dies from Drinking Binge – Details

Ted KoppelIt was a tragic end to a seemingly innocent day of drinking for news anchor Ted Koppel’s son who was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday after a full-day drinking binge.

According to the Post, Andrew Koppel met 32-year-old waiter Russell Wimberly while drinking at Smith’s Bar and Restaurant - a Hell’s Kitchen bar - in New York City.

The two began drinking at noon (Koppel reportedly drinking straight whiskey) and didn’t stop until around 11pm when he started complaining that he didn’t feel well.

Wimberly called 911 when he realized Koppel wasn’t conscious but it was too late. He was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived.

Koppel, 40, lived in Queens with his girlfriend and baby and had 3 sisters.

The full details of the story can be found at on the NYPost website.
