MTV Movie Awards 2010 Recap

It’s time again for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards! Who won the golden popcorn? What live-TV moments did you miss? Find out here!

This year’s fan-voted festivities were hosted by Parks and Recreation comedian Aziz Ansari and kicked off with a show-stealing skit starring Tom Cruise as Les Grossman. Cruise’s crude Tropic Thunder character was revived to bring Twilight stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, Jaden Smith and Michael Cera some crazy movie ideas, then Les reappeared later in the show to bust a move with JLo. It was so funny/strange that it got a standing ovation from the star-filled audience. Leave it to Tom Cruise to bust out something interesting a week before the opening of his new film with Cameron Diaz, Knight and Day.

Kristen Stewart gave the worst acceptance speech ever for her award for Best Female Performance, saying “I guess ‘Twilight’ is really awesome, and I agree.” She also dropped her golden popcorn in a spastic moment.

The best acceptance speech went to Ken Jeong of The Hangover, in which he mentions his wife’s battle with breast cancer, cries a bit, and then says that his wife has been cancer-free for two years. Sweet.

In a surprise win, Best Best Breakout Star went to Anna Kendrick from Up In the Air. Notable noms who missed out were The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis  Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, Chris Pine for Kirk in Star Trek. Best Scared as Shit Performance was awarded to Amanda Seyfried for her role opposite Megan Fox.

Best Kiss winners were, whaddaya know, KStew and Robert Pattinson. More awkwardness ensued as the pair faked some awkward attempts at kissing. Awkward.

Bradley Cooper, Scarlet Johansson and last remaining Golden Girl Betty White presented the Generation Award to a laughing, smiling Sandra Bullock. White called Sandra a national treasure before name-dropping/mangling the plot-lines of Bullock’s long list of films, followed by a montage that made me cry a little.

Looking gorgeous in a little sparkly black dress and hot nude heels, Sandra took the stage to a standing ovation that had her telling people to “sit down, we’re on a time limit here people”. Love that Sandra. Somehow, the moment turned into Bullock and ScarJo “reenacting” the best kiss Ryan and Sandra were nominated for (but lost out to KStew and RPatt).

Tom Felton of Harry Potter series fame won Best Villain and Biggest Badass Star went to Rain, aka Jung Ji Hoon,an Asian pop star and actor who came stateside only recently to star in Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin. Best Male Performance nominees included Robert Pattinson, Chaning Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Effron, Taylor Lautner…  but there could only be one winner, at it was… Robert Pattinson. Go Twilight, go. I guess.

In  a musical interlude, Christina Aguilera should have won an award for best LadyGaga performance for her medley of songs from new album Bionic — great set Xtina, but we like you better when you just do you. Then, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Ben Stiller and Sandra Bullock were nominated for Best Comedic Performance, but Zach Galifianakis won it for his The Hangover role.

Last  but  not least, Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise (as Tom Cruise) presented the Best Movie award. Nominees were Avatar, Alice In Wonderland, Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, New Moon, and The Hangover. And SHOCKER! New Moon took home the golden popcorn. Which wasn’t so bad since director Chris Weiz got up on stage and proceeded to try to mess with the sensors by dropping the f-word as much as possible.

Host Aziz Ansari closed the show with the remark: “What a surprise! Twilight won everything!” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
