Spring 2010 Trends: You Say Harem Pants, I Say Hammer Pants
One of the hottest trends this season is quickly becoming what fashion magazines have affectionately dubbed “Harem Pants”. Available in a variety of colours and styles, these pants can be found in stores across the world.
I’ve seen many people wearing them. I’m sure designers have sold thousands of pairs. But people, you need to wake up. You’re all being fooled! They’re not this season’s new must-have. Think about it for a minute, I’m sure you’ve seen these pants before…
Like anyone who grew up in the 90’s, I know that these “trendy and chic harem pants” are in actual fact, “Hammer Pants”. As a general rule, I suggest that unless you’ve had a number 1 hit song called, “U Can’t Touch This”, you probably shouldn’t.
I’ll be honest. The super tall, super skinny models in the advertisements make them mildly appealing. But most people are not models, nor are they MC Hammer, who according to Wikipedia is executive producer of his own reality show, Hammertime, which airs Sundays at 10 PM EST on A&E. (Hey – just cause you shouldn’t wear the pants doesn’t mean you can’t watch the show.)
Truthfully, I had hoped that these unflattering fitted pants would be a quick blip on the high fashion radar. But alas, like MC Hammer himself they have proven to be Too Legit to Quit.
