“I’ve never said this before, but I’m a proud bisexual woman,” Vanessa Carlton said between songs at the Nashville Pride Festival. The singer made the announcement to an audience of over 18,000 fans on Saturday.
Nashville Pride is a celebration of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and as Carlton was the main headliner, it was hardly shocking that she would choose that location to officially drop the news.
Best known for the single, “A Thousand Miles” from her debut album, “Be Not Nobody”, Vanessa has been previously linked to John Mayer and Third Eye Blind front man, Stephen Jenkins.
Vanessa Carlton now joins a handful of celebrities who have recently chosen to reveal their sexuality. Anna Paquin declared her bisexuality in April when she recorded a PSA for the True Colors Fund. Ricky Martin affirmed he was gay in March of this year and country singer Chely Wright came out as a lesbian this past May, making her the first country music star to acknowledge his or her homosexuality .
