If you look up the word, “badass” in the dictionary, you’ll likely find it next to a picture of Helen Mirren. Actually, you’ll likely find it next to a topless photo of Helen Mirren. The almost 65-year old actress recently posed half-naked for New York Magazine.
And why not? If I look as good as Helen Mirren just weeks before my 65th birthday, hell, I’ll go topless too! I’d probably make excuses for just not wearing a shirt, like, ever. (And, if you’ve watched any of her movies you’ll know she does too.)
But Dame Helen is “badass” for more than taking her clothes off in her later years. She’s also a fabulous actress who has fought relentlessly on behalf women and the way they are “eaten up” by the entertainment industry.
With a career spanning over 40-years in the business, Helen has certainly proved herself to be a survivor. In her latest role, Mirren plays Grace Botempo, the madam of a booming 1970’s Reno whorehouse. Directed by Helen’s longtime husband, Taylor Hackford, “Love Ranch” finds Grace embroiled in a steamy affair with a boxer 30-years her junior after being diagnosed with cancer and becoming frustrated with her sleazy husband (played by Joe Pesci).
Who else could go from playing Queen Elizabeth II to a seventies reno madame? Helen Mirren is truly the definition of badass.
