Michael Jackson: Remembering An Icon (Photos)

Micheal JacksonOne year ago today, Michael Jackson was found unconscious in bed at his rented Los Angeles mansion.  Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and his death triggered an outpouring of grief from people around the world.

Michael Jackson is loved to this day for his contribution to contemporary music and performance, influencing numerous hip hop, pop, R&B and rock artists, and wowing us with his dance moves.  His music video for Thriller is the arguably the best video of all time, and is recognized as such by both VH1 and MTV.  It’s also the first music video ever selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Despite the controversy which surrounds Michael’s personal life (and continues to this day) his music remains a powerful force that brings people together.

Many tributes to Michael Jackson have been planned for today in honor the late King of Pop.

His hometown of Gary, Indiana will be holding a candlelight vigil at the Jackson’s former home.  Fans are also expected to gather where Michael is buried – Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale California – for a memorial.  Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, has given her blessing to a tribute concert, Forever Michael, scheduled for the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday.  Partial proceeds from the concert will be given to the Jackson Foundation and the singer’s favorite charities.  You can also view our photo gallery, which has numerous images of Michael throughout his life.

If you’re looking to honor Michael in your own way, a the official Michael Jackson website is allowing fans to post their own special message of tribute to the star.

Michael, may you rest in peace.
