Amy Locane Charged with Vehicular Homicide

Amy LocaneAmy Locane, best remembered for playing southern belle, Sandy, on the original Melrose Place has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide.  The actress was involved in a car accident Sunday night, in which the passenger of the other car was killed.  The driver of the other car was airlifted to a nearby hospital and remains in serious condition.

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, “Locane ran into the passenger side if a car in Montgomery, New Jersey, and killed a woman who was sitting in the front [passenger] seat,” The Examiner reports.

After being transported to the hospital, Locane admitted to authorities that she had consumed several glasses of wine before getting into her car on Sunday night.  Her blood alcohol level was tested while in a Princeton Hospital for treatment after the crash; however those test results have not yet been released.

The LA Times Blog reports that the mother of two also “rear-ended a car in Princeton shortly before the fatal crash, according to a prosecutor’s statement.”

Bail has been set at $50,000.  If convicted, Locane could face between five and ten years in prison.
