Andrew Garfield Cast as Next Spiderman

Andrew Garfield is bringing a whole new level of hotness to our favorite part-arachnid. According to The Associated Press/Huffington Post, the 26 year-old has been cast as Peter Parker aka Spiderman in the next Spiderman movie, distributor Sony Pictures announced Thursday.

Garfield’s credits include Heath Ledger’s final movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and the Tom Cruise flop Lions for Lambs. But by the time the as-yet-untitled Spiderman film hits theaters on July 3, 2012, more people will recognize him, since he also stars alongside Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenbgerg in Facebook-themed movie The Social Network.

Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” said director Marc Webb, who is new to the franchise but earned a lot of fans with 500 Days of Summer. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Although Garfield was born in the U.S., he grew up in England and starred in a few TV shows there.

“In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer,” said Avi Arad, one of the Spiderman producers. “We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

What do you think? Can Andrew fill Tobey Maguire’s shoes?
