Cameron Diaz Doesn’t Believe in Long-Term Love

Cameron Diaz was (and still is) one of my favorite actresses on the planet. However, her recent comments regarding marriage and love have made me question whether she’s a good role model for young adults.

In a new interview with UK’s Stylisht magazine, Diaz says that falling in love at a young age and staying married for 80 years is bullshit.

“I think the big misconception in our society is that we’re supposed to meet the one when we’re 18 and we’re supposed to get married to them and love them for the rest of our lives. Bullshit.

“Who would want to be with the same person for 80 years? Why not break it up a little bit?”

Well, Cam, the answer to that question is “a lot of people would love to be with the same person for 80 years. Sure, it’s not for everyone but criticizing people who don’t feel the same way is a little over-the-top, don’t you think?”

Cameron (who has been romantically linked to Justin Timberlake, Matt Dillon and Jared Leto) is currently dating Alex Rodriguez but still has a tip for her romantically-challenged fans:

“Have someone for five years and another person for another five years,” she says. “Life is long and lucky and yes, love might last forever but you don’t always live with the person you love forever.”

Poor Cameron. Just because you haven’t found your soulmate doesn’t mean true love doesn’t exist for everyone.

Here’s a tip for you: Try to avoid generalizing in your interviews. Keep your opinions personal. “I wouldn’t want to be with the same person for 80 years” is a lot different than “Who would want to be with the same person for 80 years?”

What do you think of Cameron Diaz’s anti-long-term-love stance? If we had to sum it in one word, that would be easy: bullshit.
