Janet Jackson is the latest celebrity to be photographed for Blackglama’s “What becomes a legend most?” campaign. But according to Pamela Anderson and PETA, greed is never in fashion.
What makes Janet’s participation more controversial than most is that Miss Jackson has reportedly spoken out against fur in the past. According to People.com, PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews wrote a letter to Janet, questioning her decision to pose in fur.
“You and I spoke at length about the fur issue,” Mathews wrote, “You told me that you were always aggravated in photo shoots when stylists would try and throw fur on you and that you were even wary of wearing fake fur out of concern that it might actually be real or look real and send the wrong message.”
He ends by simply asking the singer, “What happened?”
Animal rights activist Pamela Anderson thinks Janet’s decision to support Blackglama was really all about the green. “I don’t know why people stop listening to their heart. I guess some people get greedy, but it’s sad,” said the former Baywatch star.
Despite the controversy, Janet has expressed great honor in being chosen as one of the legendary faces to be featured in Blackglama’s fur ads. “What makes a legend, to me, is someone who has made a major mark on the world that lasts forever. Not just with their art, but for example, Elizabeth Taylor is a legendary actor, but [there is] also her humanitarian efforts, working with AIDS and AIDS research,” she says. “That, to me, is what really makes someone a legend.”
