Kara DioGuardi: American Idol Judge No More!

By Heather on July 30th, 2010

Kara DioGuardiDim the lights Idol fans – Kara DioGuardi has been fired from American Idol after snagging a seat on the American Idol judges’ panel in season 8 of the show.  DioGuardi had a year-to-year contract with the show, which reportedly was not renewed.

News of DioGuardi’s exit comes just a few hours after Ellen DeGeneres tweeted that she had “Voted [herself] off American Idol.”  The TV talk show host claims she felt that she wasn’t “the right fit” for the gig, because she found it difficult to judge people and “sometimes hurt their feelings.”

TMZ reports that the show will be returning to its initial three-judge format and if all goes according to plan, the panel will consist of current judge Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler!

I’m not sure how I feel about this.  The new panel is a little bit awesome, a little bit wtf.  Translation: it IS a little random, but I think it could work.

Jennifer Lopez is actually a pretty good Paula replacement – they’ve both had similar careers in the music industry and I think there’s potential for her to say some pretty hilarious things a la Paula Abdul.

Steven Tyler is pretty solid in his own right.  Aerosmith has been selling out stadiums for decades – likely longer than many contestants have been alive – I’m interested to see what sort of advice he dishes out and how he fits in with the other two judges.

What do you think?  Will the new panel help to revitalize the show?  Will you be watching?

Randy, JayLo, and Steven sounds like a fun show to me....I love the idea....But, most of all, the show will again be watchable with Kara gone. Getting rid of Kara is the absolute best thing to happen to AI in two years....Thanks, woot!

No. I won't be watching. I liked the original panel and it's just not the same. Now that Ellen's going, it's even less interesting.
