Sweet Valley Confidential: The Wakefield Twins Are Back!
Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield are making a comeback! The new book, “Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later” penned by Francine Pascal, the author of the extremely popular “Sweet Valley” series, is set to hit shelves in early 2011, CNN’s Marque Blog reports.
The original “Sweet Valley” books – I had almost the whole collection – chronicled the lives of identical twins, Jessica and Elizabeth, growing up in the often idealized (and always dramatic) town of Sweet Valley, California. The books began when the twins were in elementary school, and followed them through their enrollment in Sweet Valley High. They also sparked the popular television series of the same name.
However, the Marque warns that if you’re looking for unicorn clubs and mall outings you’re out of luck – Jessica and Elizabeth have grown up, along with the girls who initially loved the Sweet Valley High books.
Here’s a quick summary of how the story starts off:
The twins are 27 and still drop-dead gorgeous… obviously. Elizabeth is working as a reporter in New York City for an online theater magazine. She moved to the east coast after a bitter break up and has been living in the big city for months. She’s lonely and her apartment sucks. Jessica is in the midst of a divorce and apparently has done something unforgivable to her twin, which is why Elizabeth refuses to speak to her.
Alright, it does essentially sound like the rest of the Sweet Valley books, but I’m excited to read it nonetheless.
Fans of the Sweet Valley series will also be happy to know that Diablo Cody has reportedly signed on to write a Sweet Valley film adaptation for Universal!
