Vogue Italy August: Oil Covered Model Sparks Controversy (Watch)!

Vogue has always been a brand that strives to push the boundaries of modern day art and interpretation and the latest “Water and Oil” spread for the August issue of Vogue Italy is no exception.

Possibly the most controversial shoot in the history of the magazine, the 24-page feature has some readers furious and others fascinated.

The shoot consists of several photos featuring popular model Kristen McMenamy. Kristen poses in water and on rocks, covered in oil and appearing to be almost-dead.

She models black dresses and gowns covered in feathers with her skin caked in oil. At one point, Kristen appears to be choking on feathers as she grasps for air.

While many feel uneasy (and borderline offended) about “glamorizing this recent ecological and social disaster for the sake of fashion,” the magazine’s features director Carlo Ducci defends the shoot insisting “we can’t be silent in this kind of situation and why shouldn’t our interpretation be artistic?”

Tell us, do you think the photos are inappropriate to feature for an haute couture clothing line?

  1. This is low. Even for Vogue. They should be ashamed of themselves!

  2. Desperate plea for attention IMO. Magazine sales must be low right now. Too bad no one will buy the issue because it’s completely immoral to expose such a tragedy to gain personal publicity.
