After complaints that Judge Marsha Revel improperly held meetings with defense attorneys in Lindsay Lohan’s case, Revel rescued herself by stepping down from the case just before prosecutors could file the necessary paperwork to formally request the change.
The LA Times reports that “The contacts made by the judge include communications between her and defense lawyers as well as other experts in the case. Among those was the Morningside Recovery drug and alcohol treatment center in Orange County,” a source told the paper – a rehab center which was not on the list of recommended facilities from her own court-appointed experts.
Ultimately Lindsay’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley was able to convince Judge Revel to send Lindsay to UCLA Medical Center, where she is fresh out of jail and currently serving her 90-day rehab sentence.
Prosecutor Danette Meyers raised the objection with the judge, Friday, after which Revel voluntarily removed herself from the case.
Following her time in rehab, Pop Eater writes that Lindsay will continue to be on probation until August 2011.
Judge Revel famously read Lindsay the riot act during her probation hearing, outing the Mean Girls star for repeatedly lying about her role in two drunk-driving related incidents within months of each other in 2007, and later, failing to attend her required alcohol education classes.
Judge Elden Fox will now be handling Lindsay’s case.
