Actor Chris Klein has completed 96 hours in jail on on his own accord for his second drunk-driving arrest, People Magazine reports. The American Pie star has also completed two months in a live-in rehab center.
Klein, 31, appeared in a Van Nuys, CA court today, where he pleaded no contest to DUI and was sentenced to four years’ probation, fines and an 18-month alcohol education class. ”I apologize for my wrongdoing and I really appreciate that the court gave me the opportunity to prove how seriously I took all of this,” Klein told Judge David B. Gelfound.
Klein was arrested back in June after he was weaving around a Los Angeles freeway. He had committed the same crime in February 2005, as well. Since he was a repeat offender, Klein faced a mandatory minimum of four days behind bars, and served his time in a private city jail. He could have received up to a year in jail, but TMZ reports that the judge recognized that he had taken steps to correct his problem by checking into rehab. He must also install a device in his car that will prevent him from starting the engine if alcohol is detected on his breath.
His attorney, Blair Berk, said, “Chris took immediate responsibility for what he did and has used this experience in such a positive way to get help to confront an addiction to alcohol. He deserves enormous credit for stepping up and getting it done.”
So will Chris ever be acting again? IMDB claims he’ll star in the upcoming Sam and lend his voice to The Wild Bunch.
