Jon Stewart Announces “Rally to Restore Sanity” in Washington

Move over, tea partiers. Jon Stewart’s hosting a rally for the rest of us – and by the rest of us, I mean sane. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Daily Show host has called upon American’s who aren’t extremists on the right or left to join him for a “Rally To Restore Sanity,” also called “A Million Moderate March.”

The rally will take place on Washington’s National Mall on 10/30/10. After much anticipation (he kept making announcements about his announcement), Stewart announced the event on his show last night, under the banner “Take It Down A Notch For America.” Take a look at the video:

Stewart admitted that he was already planning to be in Washington during that time, since The Daily Show will be taping there Oct. 25-28. And he’s also promoting his new book, Earth. But I don’t think this is just an opportunity for promotion. Stewart really does want the world to see that there are still some civil, normal Americans out there who aren’t wearing meat dresses or crying along with Glenn Beck.

Stephen Colbert immediately announced on The Colbert Report that he’ll host his own rally on the same day in the same location, called the “March To Keep Fear Alive.” Now the only question is: where can I get a cheap flight to DC?
