Kate Norley and John Oliver Engaged!
John Oliver popped the question to his girlfriend of two years, Kate Norley while in the Caribbean in July – and she said yes!
“We were in St. Thomas on holiday,” John, a correspondent for The Daily Show told PEOPLE.
The couple first met in 2008 at the Republican National Convention. John was covering the convention for The Daily Show, while Kate was there campaigning. They struck up a friendship and remained close until Kate made the first move.
“I got seduced,” John joked.
An Iraq War veteran, Kate is now enjoying a slower pace of life. “I was a medic in the Army,” she told PEOPLE. “It was difficult, but right now it’s nice that I get to spend time with the love of my life.”
“It’s the most emasculating thing I could possibly do to go out with someone who has actually done something valuable with their life,” John teased.
The couple plan to wed sometime next year. Congrats!
