Clothing retailer the Gap recently changed its iconic, all-caps-in-a-blue-box logo to a modern (and lame) black lowercase Helvetica logo. But when the people spoke – and hated it – the company decided to revert back to the old and comfortable. The Boston Globe reports that the new logo was met with so much criticism from bloggers, commenters on Gap’s Facebook page, font officianados and the design community that the only choice was to throw out the new letters.
“We’ve learned just how much energy there is around our brand, and after much thought, we’ve decided to go back to our iconic blue box logo,” company spokesperson Louise Callagy told Bloomberg.com Monday.
Hooray! I don’t even love the old logo that much…it’s more that the new logo is so unhip. If you think font doesn’t matter, just ask the people who have created a movement to rid the world of Comic Sans.
The question is – would any new logo make Gap lovers want to forsake their chinos? Is that blue box really too iconic to change? This shopper says yes.

“….the only choice was to through out the new letters.”
What does that mean?
