Dancing with the Stars regular Karina Smirnoff will soon be waltzing down the aisle! The professional dancer is engaged to baseball player, Brad Penny.
Though the couple confirmed the good news to PEOPLE magazine on Saturday, Karina and Brad have actually been engaged for more than a month – since October 4.
“We kept it quiet because my family is in New York and Brad’s is in Oklahoma so we kind of wanted them to come out and celebrate and be a family first before we let the cat out of the bag,” the dancer explained.
The pair have yet to start planning the wedding, however the engagement was what Karina describes as a “conspiracy” between Brad, and the star’s manager, who told her that the president of Twitter wanted to meet her following a taping of Dancing with the Stars.
“We went to this restaurant and [my manager] got on her phone and said, ‘this guy is killing me’ and got up and walked away. Then Brad walked in and it still didn’t register. He got down on one knee and opened the box and I said, ‘Thank you.’ I honestly didn’t expect it.”
Karina and Brad began dating in October 2009 after meeting through their mutual friend, UFC fighter Chuck Liddell.
