Less than a week and a half after her ex-husband Nick Lachey announced his engagement to Vanessa Minnillo, Jessica Simpson and her fiancé NFL star boyfriend Eric Johnson are announcing they’re set to wed as well.
The couple released this statement through their rep:
“Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged!” says the rep.
Afterwards, Simpson, 30, showed off her ruby red Neil Lane engagement ring (see photo here).
According to a source “She [Jessica] was in a really good mood. She was very friendly and sweet. She signed autographs and seemed to have a great time.”
I won’t be the first to congratulate Jessica because, as some of you know, I’m still hoping for a reunion between she and Nick Lachey.
And despite the fact that the former couple insist there’s nothing left between them, I can’t help but think that the timing of their engagements prove otherwise. They’ve been divorced for years now and they both get engaged within a 10-day period. It’s a little weird, don’t you think?
Did Jessica flip out when Nick got engaged and force Eric into proposing to her? Who knows. But a week and a half difference after almost exactly 5 years of divorce (they announced they were separating on November 23, 2005) is more than a little weird, if you ask me.
I guess now it will be a race to the altar. Who will make it to the altar first: Jessica and Eric or Nick and Vanessa…or neither (fingers crossed)…
