After Kate Middleton’s sapphire blue Issa engagement dress sold out a mere 24 hours after the soon-so-be-Princess donned the frock as fiancé Prince William announced their engagement, speculation has been rampant over which designer will have the privilege of creating Kate’s wedding dress.
Though a number of designers are said to have been short listed, PEOPLE reports that Phillipa Lepley is the sudden front-runner after a UK bookie slashed odds on her being named the chosen one.
Betting firm William Hill told the magazine that it “had received several three-figure bets on Thursday.” Rupert Hill, a spokesperson for the firm confirmed to PEOPLE that “they had more than 1,000 pounds – about $1,600 – suddenly wagered on the designer.”
Phillipa Leply is known for her elegant dress designs, and has made dresses for well-known British celebrities.
Royal watchers are still anxiously awaiting the announcement of William and Kate’s wedding day, which was speculated to be made public as early as Friday. The day will likely be a bank holiday for the United Kingdom.
