Part of a jawbone found on the beach in Aruba earlier this month does not belong to Natalee Holloway, CNN reports. An American tourist found the bone near the Phoenix hotel, launching an investigation into whether it might belong to Natalee, the Alabama teen who vanished while on vacation there in 2005.
The Aruban Public Prosecutor’s Office says that the bone is a human bone – but when it was compared to Holloway’s dental records, sent to the forensic institute last week, testing “excludes the possibility that the bone material found in Aruba is that of Natalee Holloway.” Officials don’t know who the bone does belong to; “It’s a Jane Doe,” Taco Stein, the Solicitor General explained to People Magazine.
Police collected another bone found on the Aruban beach by a family from New Jersey, but it was discovered not to be human. Take a look at this video for more:
Holloway, who had visited Aruba to celebrate her high school graduation, was last seen on May 30, 2005, leaving an Oranjestad nightclub with Joran van der Sloot and two other men. Though Van der Sloot was detained twice in the Holloway case and actually confessed, he was never charged (police claim his confession was “very unbelievable”). He is, however, charged with wire fraud and extortion in Alabama for allegedly attempting to extort more than $250,000 from Holloway’s family after promising to show them the location of her body.
Van der Sloot is currently awaiting trial in Lima, Peru, where he has been charged with the murder of Stephany Flores.
