Christina Aguilera Speaks Out About Divorce
Christina Aguilera recently filed for divorce from Jordan Bratman – but it wasn’t an easy decision. The 29 year-old mom recently told People Magazine why she decided to end her marriage: “Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it,” she explained. “I really didn’t want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up.”
Christina and Jordan have a 2 year-old son, Max, but Christina knows from experience that the split will turn out to be good for him, since her own parents’ rocky marriage ended in divorce when she was 7. “When you’re unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer,” she said. “That’s the last thing I wanted for my son.” She and Jordan tried to patch up their marriage, even taking a trip to Italy for some family time – but ultimately things just didn’t work out.
Despite the setback, Christina is moving on – both personally and professional. Christina stars alongside Cher in Burlesque, which is in theaters now – and she’s been hanging out both in LA and NY with Matthew Rutler, who worked as a set assistant on the film. “He’s the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight,” she said of her new pal.
Is she in love? “There’s a love there, yes. I’m having fun, I’m dating and it’s something I haven’t had in a really long time.” Wow!
