Kellie Pickler was in the midst of planning a glamorous Nashville wedding to her songwriter beau, Kyle Jacobs, when they decided to simply elope instead. Realizing that they were losing each other in the process of planning a blockbuster wedding, Kellie admits that bigger doesn’t always mean better.
“When two people get married, it’s not about the glamour,” the country singer told PEOPLE. “It’s about the bride and groom and God.”
Though we can tell from the photo (right) that Kelly looked absolutely beautiful for her big day!
“We didn’t have anything but us and God and our minister,” she continued, “and I can’t think of a word that can quite describe how perfect it was.”
Kellie and Kyle eloped to Antigua, and were married New Year’s day as the sun set over the Caribbean Sea.
Shortly after the happy couple exchanged vows, the former ‘American Idol’ star tweeted, “Private Island. Caribbean. Cigar in one hand, Rum in the other. Someone just called me ‘Mrs. Jacobs.’ …. Sounds nice.
