Wear Red Day 2011: Why You Should Go Red to Support Women Today!

Valentine’s Day may be arriving in less than two weeks but there’s another great reason to be wearing red this season.

Today, Friday February 4th, is National Wear Red Day. This day was brought about in hopes of honoring and raising awareness for women’s (and, men’s too J) heart health.

For those of you who don’t know, heart disease is the number one killer for women and kills approximately one woman every minute around the world.

So how did “National Wear Red Day” or “Go Red to Support Women Day” come about? Well, the Heart and Stroke Foundation started this day to bring national awareness to women and men everywhere. They’re using this day to draw attention to educational programs and treatment options so that women can be more prepared to prevent and fight this deadly disease.

If you aren’t wearing red now, we encourage you to change your outfit today! If you don’t have something red in your wardrobe, hey, it’s a good excuse to go shopping, isn’t it? Besides, you can reuse whatever cute purchase you make today in a couple of weeks when V-Day arrives!

If you still require more incentive to show your support by wearing red, Macy’s – the corporate sponsor of National Wear Red Day is giving special deals and discounts to all customers who wear red from Feb 2 -  6 (there are still two days left)!

How will you be showing your support today?
