More devastating news for Japan today -
As you may already know, the powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit on Friday has put the country into a state of nuclear emergency. A nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan known as the Fukushima Daichi plant has been reporting cooling problems since the event.
On Saturday, this resulted in an explosion of reactor 1. There are six reactors in the plant. Radiation was released at this time. Today, another explosion hit the power plant – affecting reactor 3. Officials say it is very unlikely that the explosion resulted in a release of large amounts of radiation. This explosion blew the roof off the container that surrounds the reactor’s core. The core was not damaged in this explosion.
