Is Will Ferrell the New “Office” Boss?

Note: Office Spoiler alert below!

After Steve Carell announced months ago that he would be leaving The Office when his contract ends, speculation raged about who could possibly fill his funny shoes. Now in its seventh season, the show has defied the odds…apparently people are still buying paper, if you know what I mean. But would it be the same without Michael Scott? Definitely not.

Could it be…better?

Forget upcoming TV stars. What about the world’s favorite frizzy-haired movie man? According to The Hollywood Reporter, in last night’s episode of The Office, none other than Will Ferrell gave Steve a hug as an announcer said, “Well, well, well, look who’s going to be the new boss.”

For die-hard fans (and blog readers), it wasn’t a surprise; NBC announced in January that Will would play a guy from the home office. Unfortunately a permanent position is too good to be true. Will is just doing a multi-episode arc, meaning the branch will get another new boss in the future. Earlier this week, it was reported that Ricky Gervais will also appear in this season’s finale, which is scheduled to air May 19.

Maybe NBC is onto something here. Replacing Steve Carell with someone of his caliber is basically impossible – so perhaps alternating amazing guest stars is a better solution. Just look to 30 Rock, which has treated us to Matt Damon, Elizabeth Banks, Jon Hamm, Steve Martin and Jennifer Aniston (just to name a few). Of course, none of them have taken Alec Baldwin’s office…

What do you guys think?

  1. I think Will Ferrell would be great as the full-time replacement, but only if he kept his act to a minimum of idiocy. He tends to go overboard with his expressiveness, at which point I get tired of him. Nevertheless, since he’s only a “temp”, they should alternate David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar.
