Most of you will likely remember Pia Toscano’s exit from the American Idol competition last week. Some fans were furious over her elimination while others agreed that Pia deserved to be sent home for her inability to connect with the audience.
Less than a week after her elimination from Idol 2011, Pia is now in the final stages of working out a contract with Interscope Records – the same label that is now responsible for signing the winner of American Idol (it used to be Sony).
But with Pia - who didn’t even make the Top 4 - already almost signed to the label, it makes many wonder ‘what’s the point in trying to win the competition when you can leave early and get signed before the show even ends?’
It’s a good question, and one that has yet to be answered by Idol producers. I’m all for the runner-ups getting record deals (after all, some of the most successful Idol singers never won their seasons) but I think they should hold off on signing anyone until the season is over. It kind of steals the thunder away from the remaining contestants, if you ask me.
Rumors are also swirling that Pia could be performing her first single on the finale of American Idol.
Now that’s definitely stealing someone’s thunder!

Of course she should get a record deal ASAP. She was the most professional and most deserving performer on that show. What’s unfair to everyone is the messed up voting and judging process on that show. If some performers benefitted from it, then I don’t feel bad if the most deserving talent gets a record deal before them. American Idol did everyone a disservice this season. So let’s all get over it and be sensible and give the record deal to the best talent.
You’re not going to take away from the competition of the top 10 on American Idol with people able to get early record deals. Everyone knows that once you get that exposure on American Idol, you’ve had your big break, and over the long term, your career is going to rise and fall based on your marketability, not on whether or not you actually win. That’s not what drives the competition – it’s driven by the desire to win, to be voted #1. Record deal or no record deal, every performer wants that.
Why should timing be a factor for a contract when Pia is already a sophisticated entertainer? She has stolen our hearts as did Carrie Underwood, and if you ran the tapes of Carrie’s competition… SHE DIDN’T MOVE!! If Pia needs to jump around to sell a song, I’m sure she can handle the job. We love you Pia.

If she does steal the thunder then thats a good thing because it shows that America was stupid for voting her off. She isn’t the only one who got voted off before the top 4 to get recording deals. Im hello Jennifer Hudson! Shes won Grammys and she was cast off at the top 7. Get your facts before you let jealous out weigh your morals. She deserves to go places with that voice. I just hope she keeps it up and doesnt disappoint.
So happy for her. Why not? If the winner is strong enough, he or she should not be afraid of her having a record deal. So what if some thirteen years old girl can’t see talent. Its not like it is a fair voting system. Cannot wait for her album to come out.
I’m glad she went home. She was boring. I really couldn’t ask her to sing any better, but I’m just not picking up what she’s putting down.
She has the best voice that I’ve heard from any American Idol contestant…ever. I think that it would be awesome if she performed her first single on the show’s finale. It actually might save some credibility for the show this season.
Yes, she’s better than anyone else left on show so maybe the show will wake up and smell the voting stink. Go Pia… and where that black number again.

i’m glad that pia is getting a record deal before the show is over. she was and still is the best singer. america just does not know talent apparently. just like siobhan magnus, she was far more talented than the others, but america don’t know real talent. she hit notes that all the others could not, she was the best.
Regardless of the timing that voice is undeniable! She deserves everything she gets and i hope they let her perform the single at the finale!
I admit first that I’m a Pia fan. I voted for her alot every week, and now that she is gone, I doubt I can motivate myself to vote for any of the remaining contestants.
I say that from the outset to give you perspective when I say that I have no problem at all if she debuts her first single on the Finale. It the Winner can not upstage her on the night they win, that speaks volumes about the future winner, not Pia herself.
Still, I would rather her first single debuts more prominently then as an “also sung” on Idol’s Final night.

I watched her Ellen performance and have to say that I liked it alot more then on the Idol Night she originally sung it. Big difference, and telling just how affected she was by her nerves regarding the competition.
Dont blame American Idol for her losing. Blame America. There the ones that didnt vote for her. They had a chance to and didnt. If American Idol were the ones that chose to get rid of her then they wouldnt be trying to sign her now. Does Ryan really have to constantly remind people to vote for their favorites after 12 years? Get with the program people.
YES She SHOULD be signed up for a record contract. You have had losers in the past who were signed up and they still suck. She is an excellent singer and she deserves a contract. My wife and I attempted to vote, but FOX’s website for American Idol refuses to allow us to vote at all. Talk about messed up. The show is obviously a popularity contest. There is a couple of guys on there now who really deserve to go home because they totally suck. Sending Pia home and then put Haley into the bottom 3? This show is becoming more and more of a joke every year. Who makes these decisions? The view can’t. I can’t even get my vote to take. SO WHO REALLY MAKES THE DECISION? Someone who sings like a shower stall jockey is NOT talented. Someone like Pia and Haley who CAN sing, DESERVE A CONTRACT.

I knew the week before Pia got the boot that America was going to send her home. The reason? She was WAY too good to even be on that show. She played Idol like a fool. She only showed 1/4 of her talent and then came Hollywood/Top 24 came and she was like ok here we go. The only thing Pia needed was for some record company to notice her and BOOM. Exactly what happened. America would rather watch someone bloom during the weeks than have a STAR out of the gate. So now she’s going to go be a STAR!

Pia has tremendous talent! She is beautiful and sings like an angel. So good she has been signed she does deserve it as I can definately see her music and style with the likes of Celine Dion and Witney Houston when they ruled the airwaves. Getting signed before anyones wins a “popularity contest” does not matter! How many that win are really artists now?? The voting system sucks and it is not always fair or partial. So I hope all with talent get signed wether they wind or lose! We need to listen to good music and give new talent a chance! Good luck to you Pia…Rock the world!!!
Without Pia, American Idol is hardly worth watching, if it wasn’t for Jacob, I wouldn’t watch.

Pia has the right combination of talent, look, and marketability which are paramount for a successful and lasting career. All the other contestants are talented, but lack many characteristics that Pia already possesses. Congratulations Pia

Pia has talent, but NO she should not be signed to anything before the Idol winner is announced. It’s all just a rumor I would hope. Pia isn’t my style, but there are people who love her, so great for them. But wait until the season is over!
Good for the people who like Pia, but she is nothing compared to Scotty, Lauren, Durbin & Jacob on that show. She should get a record deal AFTER Idol is over because she is going to be in the finale and going on tour with them.
Yes, Pia definitely deserves her record deal. She is by far, hand over fist, the most deserving of all the contestants this year. She is in a class of her own, and no one else even came close. She should have won the competition.
It was the same as the year Carrie Underwood competed, but that year American got it right.

First…Jacob is phenomenal and I hope that he wins…no one even close! Second, this entire group this year are outstanding and Pia was in my opinion second to Jacob. This is a singing/performer’s competition and Pia was simply waxing everybody but Jacob. The finale should have had the two of them in it, and the voters are pure idiots….cudos to Pia and I hope she sticks it to Idol in whatever way she can….of course without hurting Jacob Lusk….
I thought she was boring, and had an attitude that she was better than everybody else. She could sing but who wants to hear the crap she sang. Can’t stand her. Nice body but horrible nose.
The only reason Pia went home is because 90% of the votes came from women. Why does that matter? Because most of those women have husbands or boyfriends that were tongue wagging everytime Pia performed. So the first opportunity to remove their threat, they took it!! This is a singing competition. And anybody that says Pia couldn’t sing the best of the idols left is either on drugs or a jealous scorn woman! Case and point….see Diane’s message!
She’s horrible! I hated her. I think it’s because I knew she would get a contract even if she didn’t win. Somebody else needs the glory like James Durbin or Casey Abrams or Scotty McCreery. She didn’t make the top 4 because SHE IS A GIRL and because tons of tweenie bopper girls are voting more than ever for GUYS. The fact that guys that are not that great make it past should indicate that. It’s not just about Pia, but there were 5 girls in a row voted off, backing up my point that things have changed since 2002. Also look at the last 3 seasons. Pia got signed because the people signing her recognized she is a great singer, and also recognized that how people vote on idol (mostly girls) doesn’t equal what happens in the real music industry which is a complete mix of male and female etc. You ask the question why compete when you can just get signed early? The answer is you can’t get signed unless YOU ARE GOOD. In fact you have to be better than good because it scares producers when you get voted off. Kelly Pickler was #6 in her season. They signed her to 19 and she out sold the winner. But if we just look at her sales alone, she did very well. — @A person. You are really stupid. The person who deserves the glory should be a good singer. Oh, but wait you are probably a girl being that you listed THREE GUYS and most of the demographic for idol is now girls voting. But using your logic, maybe the out of tune James Durbin should stop showing off so much and being a spotlight stealer. And Scotty is the worst thing idol has ever witnessed. He’s a good singer, and good tone, but has no range or versatility and is COPYING the center median of a style from like 60 years ago! It’s not a western. Scotty WILL WIN !! No doubt that Pia Toscano is one of the most talented singers to step on American Idol, and as much as I wanted the judges to save Casey Abrams from elimination, Pia would have deserved it more. Good for her for signing a contract.

It’s obvious Pia was the huge talent. The judges made a huge mistake wasting their save on Casey Abrams. Pia Toscano is a true songbird while Abrams is more like a scruffy old crow. Abrams shouldn’t be allowed on the same stage; unless perhaps if he is cleaning or waxing the floor.
The idol record people know if they hadn’t signed her she was going to sign with someone else, and that would be money out the door.

What controversy? Isn’t the whole idea of a talent show to get exposure so you can land a deal like this. She got shafted on the show, now let’s see how big of a mistake it was to cut her way too early if at all. She should have won but instead we have another Taylor Hicks (hell, I had to look up his name he is so nondescript!).
