The Voice Tv Show: Vicci Martinez Stays – Niki Dawson Goes! Thoughts?

Crowd favorite Vicci Martinez goes head to head with Niki Dawson for Cee Lo’s team. The two battled it out with Pink’s “Perfect”.

During rehearsals, I have to admit I was a bit nervous. The two seemed very shakey  but I wasn’t sure if they just didn’t know the song well or they were nervous. Singer Monica was there to give them a helping hand. She seemed to favorite Vicci a little bit, in my opinion, but it was hard to tell.

Oh my goodness what a battle! The two were AMAZING! It was actually very hard to decide  between the two. They made the song their own – using their own unique voices and they worked as a team which made they so absolutely great.

While I loved the two – I still have to say that Vicci was my favorite here. She was so passionate and just crazy out there. I thought she was singing from her head down to her toes – it was amazing.

Apparently Cee Lo agrees calling Vicci’s singing like a “war dance” and saying that she has an effect on him that he can’t explain. But I definitely agree with Shelton on this – it was a bad decision to put those two together – they should have let America decide between this group!

  1. Niki Dawson is a better singer and should have been chosen to say. Hopefully she will be picked up by a label and we will see her in the future. Her performance was outstanding!

  2. Cee-lo chose the right singer, Vicci. Her voice was very calm, passionate and relaxed. Nikki seemed like she was pushing to hard. Vicci definitely has something about her, the IT FACTOR and you see in the end, she will be the main ingredient in his group.

  3. Omg! It’s been a long time since I have felt this strongly about a persons voice being so moving to me!! Cee Lo picked a winner with this girl, actually I think she will prove to be “the winner” of the voice. She sings with such passion and soul, and to be so small and so cute, you wouldn’t think that her big voice would come from such a sweet and innocent looking girl. The Voice is already top notch in my opinion and I love all the vocal competition shows on air at present. NBC you have a winner here!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. The DesertSage says:

Both were outstanding singers but Vicci had that little extra in her indian dance that made her stand out.

  5. The DesertSage says:

I have to say that I too love this show. Haven’t been interested in any of the other talent shows but this one is a winner. No matter who’s singing they are all excellent artists and it gives me goose bumps to see these people sing their hearts out…

  6. I disagree with Cee Lo’s pick but will admit both girls were great! However, it was evident that Niki had the edge on Vicci in every way. Cee Lo has proven from the start of the show that he enjoys looking at beautiful women and while Niki is cute she is definitely not the Cee Lo’s physical brand. Boo to you Cee Lo! … your reputation for honesty is lessening by the minute. In the beginning, “The Voice” observed its talent blindly. While both ladies had good looks, Vicci’s overrode Niki’s talent. Too bad the way the voices are selected in the beginning isn’t the same for the final competition.
In terms of the other auditions … they got it right. I was right there in my living room. Love you Adam.

    • Both girls EXCELLENT! Vicci more range in her voice and control. Nicky sang well but her voice didn’t standout.

  7. I really loved both ladies but I actually felt Niki showed more passion & drowned lil Vicci out at some point. I’m a lil disappointed.

  8. I love the show. But I felt that 3 out of the 4 people that went home, definitely shouldn’t have. I was disappointed in cee lo’s decision as well. Niki was clearly the better singer

  9. So Frenchie is picked because she’s already kind of known, The gay guy isn’t picked even though he is far better, the hot chick with the bad vibrato is picked over the guy with the interesting voice. And then Cee-Lo makes the correct choice and noticed Vicci is a singer that can raise hell. Perfect call by him. The others judges choices were whack. BTW when did we start spelling Vicky, Vicci?

  10. I loved both girls. Clearly the best performance on the Voice, but I preferred Nicky’s voice more than Vicci and was sad to see her go :(

  11. I was very disappointed in all the choices. Nikki, Tyler, and Tim were better singers all the way around. Frenchie was chosen because she was already known. I hope all the other singers are pick up by a record label. I was very disappointed in CeeLo’s decision but he made it clear to me that he was more interested in looks.

  12. I agree with Blake that Cee-Lo should have pared them with some one else. That was by far the best two singers and hard sa it was for Cee-Lo he got it right

  13. Both were great! I hope Niki gets the chance to show up again on the show for some purpose– I’d like to see her again.

  14. Vicci was so much better than Nicky, don’t understand why some posters heard differently. Nothing distinct about Nicky at all. Sounded too much like all of the other diva wannabees out there.

Frenchy was picked over (can’t remember her name) not because Frenchy was better known, but because of that “awful” run the other singer had in the beginning, what were those notes? I don’t care if she had a good last note, that run in the middle ruined her chances. Did you see the look on Aguilera’s face when she sang it?

Shame on Blake for picking run of the mill, ordinary, good ‘ol boy, Patrick. He likes what he likes (country). He didn’t pick based on who sang better, but on who he likes better. Plus the fact that Tyler was gay might have influenced his decision.

I always thought that Stevie Nicks had an overrated vibrato (sounds like a sheep bahhing to me), and this Casey sounded the same way. Adam picked her because I think he really regretted turning around for Tim in the first place. No matter what he said prior to the battle, I have a feeling that his mind was made up when he paired those 2 together.

  15. Cee Lo had a tough decision. I think Nikki should have won this one. I agree with Jeanie. Vicci was passionate but Nikki had a better flavor. Aguilera, you rock. Frenchie was better!

  16. Niki was obviously the better singer, she had more control and more power. Vicci struggled to get to that note Niki sang and held forever, and she really wasn’t as consistent as Niki. And as far as Niki sounding “too much like all of the other diva wannabees out there,” as Karen said, I think that’s extremely ignorant to say since she doesn’t sound like that, and just because she’s black doesn’t mean she sings like that, she has a very straight pop voice really, she is not running all over songs as a “diva wannabe” would. And her voice is very smooth and pleasing to the ears as apposed to Vicci’s rough, almost like she smokes, voice. Niki should have won this, and it’s dissapointing, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of her, with that voice i don’t see how it wouldn’t happen.

  17. Based on your reply you equate being a diva with being black. Wow, I didn’t realize that all divas were black, someone should tell Christina. I don’t think being diva is a bad thing, as long as you are distinct. Nikki was not. There was nothing unique about her tone, her runs or her stage presense. Also, I didn’t realize that pop singers could not be divas.

Nikki has a powerful voice, and a good one. And she does do the runs. Powerful voice + runs + a little over the top = diva IMO. But I’ve just seen and heard it all before from white, black, red and purple women!! Don’t call me ignorant based on what you “think” I’m thinking. That is just plain ignorant….

  18. Sorry for making any assumptions about your character. But Niki does have a distinct voice and those factors you described about her DO NOT equate to the whole diva thing. And her tone is far superior to that gritty growl of Vicky(which people mistake as something special), which does give the effect of emotion, so obviously you’re not a singer so you wouldnt know.

And I didnt say she doesn’t do runs. I said if you would note “she is not running all over songs as a “diva wannabe” would.”

  19. Tough choice but the right one was made. Vicci’s phrasing and effortless performance put her overthe top. The right choice was made. I do think together….they sounded great!

  20. Niki and Vicci sounded well together, but I feel if we had heard the performances individually, Niki would have won. It’s as if Niki’s sweet voice caried Vicci’s. They were like Hennessey and coke. You can drink coke (Niki) by itself all day, but you need something to dilute the Hennessey (Vicci) with. lol If you look at Niki’s youtube performances, you will see what a great voice she has. I also do not appreciate the fact we did not see all of Niki’s blind audition. It’s as if they do not want people to know how great she is.

  21. This was such a tough battle, I don’t think I could have picked. Niki was definitely a stronger singer technically, but Vicci has that IT factor. As far as the Frenchie issue, I agreed with Christina. Frenchie only had one note that was obviously way off the mark (I think at the end of the first chorus, if I remember). Tarralyn was all over the map for most of the song — my god, that first run she did was just terrible. Christina and Cia’s faces showed it all. It didn’t fit into the melody AT ALL. Her last glory note just seemed like a desperate attempt to up stage Frenchie. Frenchie was not only more technically sound but also more professional.
