Brothers & Sisters Cancelled
It’s a sad day for Brothers and Sisters fans. According to Deadline Hollywood, ABC has cancelled the family drama, making the current fifth season the show’s last. For a while, there were rumors that the network would try to give the show a shortened sixth season, with Calista Flockhart returning for six episodes…but with so many good new dramas on the horizon, ABC decided to say goodbye to the Walkers.
The cancellation has everything to do with money; with so many big stars on the show, it was expensive to produce – and as the show’s pricetag went up, the ratings went down (a lethal combination for a TV show).
Was it the right time to get rid of Brothers and Sisters? I watched the show religiously for many years…but once Rob Lowe left at the end of last season (you must watch him on Parks & Rec!!), it seemed like the series was winding down. They’ve done almost every plot you can think of for a family drama: divorce, alcoholism, political campaigns, cancer, fertility treatments, adoption, cheating, career issues, dating with kids – and a million others.
Still, it’s a bittersweet goodbye. I’ll especially miss Rachel Griffiths.
What do you think about the cancellation news?
