The Voice TV Show: Christina Aguilera NOT a fan of American Idol

Diva Christina Aguilera was on TODAY this morning talking about her new show The Voice. She admitted that before her show, she was not a fan of any other music competition show and has never actually sat through a whole episode of American Idol before.

“I don’t normally watch a whole lot of television — you know, especially music shows,” she said. “I would feel bad for the contestants they’d poke fun at just for TV sake. But when (television producer) Mark Burnett actually proposed the idea of doing this show, conceptually, it just struck me as a genius concept because it almost takes it back to before you had music videos or internet access to your favorite stars. You really have to be moved by the voice. So this was special to me, genuinely.”

One of the most important aspects of the show is the move from “judges” to “coaches.” Saying that Hollywood is a tough world and she wants to help hopefuls see what their future holds. She’s been through a lot over the past year and wants to be there not only for their music careers but to be ready for what the media has in store for them.

“Hey, if you want a career doing this, you have to roll with the punches,” she explained. “You know, you’re going to have your highs and lows, but you keep going. And every single time you take that stage that’s another opportunity for you to prove to, not only the world but to yourself, that you are stronger and (can) get up there a better person.”

  2. Adrienne Carvalho says:

I applied for the show the voice and am very disappointed that I have not yet received any type of reply. This show is being broadcast as such a different show and I have loved the concept from the beginning. It is supposed to be so real yet I cant get a real response. Is it because I am Canadian? I have no problem with rollin with the punches, and even being shut down….I do, however have a problem with the fact that this is still just a show…casting appropriate people and not giving some real people a chance.

    • Real people a chance? How about the 41 year old lesbian with the shaved head? The 18 year old girl with only a few years of formal training? Or the 33 year old father of 3? How about the openly gay singer? What about the married couple that sings as a duet? The overweight white man with a beard? The tall African American with the afro? Yeah I can see how the show shunned diversity by picking these contestants and four judges/coaches from completely different musical genres… You can’t get a real response? Yeah maybe that’s because no one else wants to apply for the show and the producers weren’t inundated with audition dvds and phone calls. Next time think about what you’re writing before posting such ignorant comments…

  3. Terry Lowen says:

When can we see the episode ? & Vote for Beverly McClellan ???

    She is F-a-b-ul-ou-s !

  4. Ya..ya..i get what your saying…it came out a little off. Not sure if ignorant is the right word. I just have a hard time trusting. I suppose you think the Bachelor is just filled with everyday young hopefuls..just waiting to find that special someone…no chance.
