Sugar Ray Leonard is one of the most iconic boxers in the world but his road to success wasn’t paved in gold. In his new memoir, Leonard opens up about how he was allegedly sexually abused by “a prominent Olympic boxing coach” when he was 15 years old.
The former Dancing with the Stars contestant goes into great detail about the incident, first talking about how the man took advantage of him and another fighter in a hot tub by doing “something a bit inappropriate,” but, later on, the situation got a lot more serious:
“Before I knew it, he had unzipped my pants and put his hand, then mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life. I didn’t scream. I didn’t look at him. I just opened the door and ran.”
The memoir (called The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring) also provides insight on Sugar Ray’s struggles with alcohol, drugs and cheating.
