It was a battle between to country-inspired American Idol contestants but only one person could take home the crown and the title of American Idol winner 2011.
The loveable Scotty McCreery was pitted against the soft-spoken, down-to-earth Lauren Alaina in the Idol finals this week after fan favorite Haley Reinhart was eliminated last week.
So who won American Idol Season 10? That would be Scotty McCreery. Lauren won over viewers early on with her heartbreaking story about her cousin. She has a subtle confidence about her (she sang with Steven Tyler during her initial audition) that intrigues fans but doesn’t overwhelm them (personally, I thought Haley was too confident – it was sort of off-putting). Unfortunately, America didn’t agree with me in that Lauren Alaina should win.
In my opinion, Lauren Alaina was the perfect choice for American Idol winner 2011 but I’m very aware that there are many of you out there who disagree with me.
So, now that you’ve heard who won the competition tonight, tell me, do you think Scotty McCreery deserves to be your new American Idol?

Yeah for Scottie ! Heck yea he deserved to win. I think the Judgies tried to sway the people to vote & push people to vote for Lauren & saying she was IT, Way to many times . And Ryan being all goo goo cause she & he is from GA, And the Peaches nickname. It seemed to get her more airtime & they dropped her name more & pushed her more than others when others like Haley where defn. better. AND Pia.
Sometimes it makes you think its riged. Just a thought huh? But am truly happy for Scotty !!
Scotty was the better singer and he deserved to win and yes I think they try to rig it. The judges tried to push you to vote for their favorite and it has never worked. The more they push their favorite the less likely they are to win.
Last year I voted for Lee because I got tired of the judges tried to push Adam Lambert on everyone.
He didnt deserve it..laruen was the better singer… !!!
Does anyone remember the guy who refused to let Scotty in his group during the group competitions? Haha! Jerk! I hope he’s kicking his own ass now!
Good for Scotty and all….but Haley was much more deserving IMO. Oh well.
He does not deserve it and neither does anyone else other than either Pia or James. Again the tone deaf Americans get it wrong. Will never watch this crap again. He wont last more than his first release, after that he will be like the rest of the previous winners/losers. Dead and buried in the history of most other not worthy winnners. What happend to Adam Lambert??? same as Pia & James. not happy
Evidently you don’t know talent. Everyone of those contestants deserved to be the American Idol winner. Could you do better???? If you think you can than you better try out for Season 11. Scotty and Lauren Alaina are 2 very talented people and they will do very well. Better than you and I financially, I’m sure.
i think lauren scotty or pia shouldve won those were the three best!!
amen
Off course he deserved it!
Now go twirl it!! Lol
Scotty definitely deserved it, Lauren was a great singer too but felt Scotty was better. And after what the judges did the night before, it made me want to vote even more for Scotty.
I totally agree with you that Scotty deserved to win. It seemed that on Tuesday night the judges were going to TRY and get Lauren Alaina to be the next American Idol. Made me quite upset that they were trying to SWAY votes her way. Don’t get me wrong, she is a fabulous singer, but I still am glad Scotty won. It could have gone either way. Happy for Scotty.
What a celebration of mediocraty…..
WTF…. How on earth could they get it so wrong? Scotty should not have made it to the top ten nevermind winning…. He is at best a mediocre singer who can hit low notes… As a country music fan I’m blown away by the fact that everyone liked him so much… His style is closest to a Josh Turner or Paul Brandt, but he’s not even close to as good as them, never will be…. That dumb look is going to be stuck on his face forever now I guess…. and how dare they mention Garth in the same sentence as Scotty… I’m baffled…. There was so much talent this year, and he was not it…. Won’t watch that crap show again….
You have it so wrong!!!!! Scotty was the very best talent on the show. Haley should be a pole dancer, more suited her. You know Tim Mcgraw didn’t sound as good as Scotty, And Tim is one of the best out there. I think Scotty will be a star just like Carrie Underwood!!!!!!!!!!!!!I guess you don’t like a normal kid no long hair, no drug problem, just plain simple talent. Idol will be better off without you!!!!!!!!
Cant say I agee about Haley i thought she was better at carring atune that Lauren and so much more in depth as far as what she can sing , but with that said I guess its what makes us all different ,
you don’t judge artists with ego-size, Haley was the most talented and should have won; this has become s silly popularity contest
I completely agree. Makes a person wonder if the judges & Ryan make the results what they are.
I said from day one scotty had it and by it I mean he had the whole thing in the bag>>Scotty is an amazing singer ,and I would love to see him and Lauren dating they make such a sweet couple. Would love to see my of him and her singing together in the furture.. You Go SCOTTY !!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately American Idol has become a popularity contest controlled by teenage girls who don’t understand or appreciate real signing talent, Scotty was good, but I thought James and Haley should have been in the finals and Jame’s duet with Judas Priest certainly added credence to his real talent. The goal of idol is to create pop muscical star that has both the musical chops and the stage presense to become a star. I think Adam Lambert had it and I think James would have made it if the voting weren’t convoluted. I think Idol nees to have the winner chosen by a combination of votes and the judges and mentors. If it continues to have misfires like Lee Dewyze X factor will eat its lunch.
Absolutely not, Scotty should not have won. It should have been an all girls final. Scotty is only country, so not very marketable.
The final competition show was very boring, couldn’t wait for it to end.
Totally disappointed in the outcome.
So country isn’t marketable????? You must be living under a rock VM. Country is the hottest thing going for artists now. You evidently don’t have much of a life if you think that way. You better get out of your cave and enjoy country music because if you don’t your missing A WHOLE LOT OF GREAT MUSIC FROM GREAT ARTISTS. Glad Scotty won and Lauren Alaina will be a great coutnry artists also. All of the contestants this year were fabulous. GREAT TALENT all the way around. GO COUNTRY…. but I love all kinds of music.
If country music isn’t “marketable” why is Carrie Underwood the most successful IDOL winner of all time? I am so happy that the top two were from the country music genre. I really liked Lauren from the start….and until this year, never watched a complete season of IDOL. ANd possibly I like country music a little too much, becasue each time James got on stage to sing, I would cringe…….I must admit that the week before the finals, I did vote and voted for Haley, because I thought that she really did out do Scotty and Lauren – THAT NIGHT. They had great contestants this year and I definately believe that Lauren, Haley and Pia will have great careers too!!! You go Scotty…Congratulations, you did derserve to win!!
it is appaerent to me that the best two singers were not even in the finals. JAMES DURBIN should have one the whole thing. he sang rings around scotty and lauren. so no scotty did not deserve it. i will buy a james durbin album before i would by a scotty album. just seems to me that this show is rigged. i will not watch it ever again.
Whatever, American idol is a poularity contest. That is why the most popular singer wins. Who would want to vote for or see an unpopular contestant win? All you sore losers quit whinning. Pia was my favorite but she did not get the popular vote. I am good with that. Just face it the most popular person won. Kinda like voting for Governor isn’t it. The most popular candidate wins. That is why we are a demogracy and live in the good ole USA. Don’t like it move to Afganistan and whine about their music for a while. Love it or leave it.
I think the judges pushing Lauren so hard might have caused a backlash; ditto the vocal cord emergency – even if true (and apparently it was), it felt contrived. And why was she always referred to by first and last name? It made it seem like Alaina was her middle name, hyphenated with Lauren in good ‘ol Southern tradition.
Talent-wise, regardless of who was your favorite or who may or may not have had more talent, there’s no point in arguing that any of the previously eliminated contestants were better. They were eliminated, so couldn’t win… end of story. Face it, one or two strong contenders get voted off early every year, and one or two strong contenders get waylaid by consistently bad or contradictory advice form the judges every year as well. It’s Idol, it’s how they roll.
Of the two finalists, America got it right. Scotty has the better voice, plus Lauren has a habit of singing slightly flat here and there. As for stage presence, both are a little awkward on stage – but so what? Carrie Underwood was, still is, and I don’t see that holding her back much.
Congrats to all of the Top 11, and a big congrats to Scotty McCreery for winning it all… he earned it!
I thought the talent was exceptional this season. I’m a big country music fan but thought the “best of the best” was James Durbin. He could sing anything and is an excellent entertainer. Casey, Haley and Pia were all very talented, just not my personal preference. Lauren (who is from my hometown) has a heck of a voice and although I think she has the better voice between her and Scotty, I felt he had more of an entertainer factor in his favor. He could sing from the soul and eyes, that ability where it’s like he’s looking through the camera and singing to you. George Strait does that better than anyone and Scotty isn’t nearly as good at it as George…yet… but I think he will do well in country music. I think Lauren and James both will make it big. Not sure about the rest, I’d love to listen to Casey while sitting at a restaurant/jazz bar, etc but I can’t see me ever buying an album he made. Good voice but just not as marketable as the other contestants imo. So yes, I think Scotty deserved it. But I’d be saying the same thing had Lauren or James won. Actually, since the winner would have been the one with the most votes, I’d have said whoever won deserved it since that’s who the voters wanted to win and that’s what American Idol is all about.
Not only was Scotty the most talented and deserving of winning the first place, he was always kind and more mature than most of the older contestants. I didn’t see him jumping on beds and walking on cabinets like some of those immature ‘singers’ when they were guests at the mansion! When the judges tried to sway votes for Lauren or anyone else for that matter, he politely agreed.
I am a real country music fan and could not listen to the screaming of James, Jacob, and Casey and several of the females too. Lots of us agreed that Scotty’s voice sounded better than Tim McGraw’s. This was the first American Idol I’ve actually enjoyed- when I happened to hear Scotty’s first interview! I will buy whatever he records!
I loved this season more than any of the past ones. Look at the past season, none winners made a big hit in the music world. You do not hear every winner on the radio, I loved Taylor Hicks. He is not doing much now. I am proud and very happy for Scotty. I love the fact that an Outward Christian won. I know that we will hear Pia, James, Lauren, Haley, And a few others fro this season oon the radio very soon. If you are mad about this season the don’t watch it no more or get off of you bottom and vote more… GO SCOTTY AND LAUREN…
Honestly and truthfully, it really does not matter who was best or whatever. Scotty literally should not even have made to Hollywood. It honestly embarassed me to listen to him sing most of the time. I quit watching Idol when there were still 8 contestants left because it became so obvious who was going to win
Lauren totally deserved to win! She was a standout ever since the beginning, and would you have expected that when Scotty sang in his audition that he was your American Idol? Lauren Alaina was an early favorite of everyone, but all of the sudden everyone switched to Scotty. It’s unfair how the best people are always the runner ups. Crystal Bowersox, Adam Lambert, and now Lauren Alaina all deserved to win. The best people always go home early and the early favorites who definitely deserve to win always get 2nd place. They should change the voting system! It’s just uncool how the guys always win.
My idea of a good voting system would be: Let America vote and choose the bottom 3. Out of the bottom 3, let the judges choose who gets eliminated. Then the last girl and last boy standing both get records.
I think Lauren won all three rounds! She has way more talent than Scotty!
People just don’t like TRUE talent anymore.
Scotty is NOT a bad singer, but so many other contestants deserved it much more. All he sang was country, while others displayed various styles! He is good at country, nothing else.
Also, all over the news were his fans saying how many times they voted for him in one night, which is not fair. When you vote for one person 30 times, on one computer in one night….it’s basically cheating. If it weren’t for computer voting, I do believe he wouldn’t have won. I’m hoping to see one person, one vote, per computer as a restriction next season.
