There’s a lot of controversy surrounding Bachelorette 2011 contestant Bentley Williams. From the minute the season began, the drama in the house has been fueled by Bentley and his inappropriate and insincere comments.
Immediately upon meeting Ashley as the Bachelorette, Bentley told the camera that he wished it was Emily instead. Ashley was warned by pal Michelle Money (from Brad’s season of The Bachelor) that Bentley was bad news but Ashley insisted on getting to know Bentley before drawing her own conclusions.
In last week’s episode, Bentley and Ashley have some one-on-one time (see video below) where Ashley begs Bentley to stay on the show. She pleads and pleads with him to stay, all while he’s talking to the camera behind her back saying things like “I came into this thinking Ashley was not attractive at all…I’ll have her, you know, tickle my pickle…that’s the extent of my interest. She’s not my type…not an Emily.”
He also says “there’s no question that Ashley doesn’t have the checklist that I’m looking for in a future wife…I couldn’t give a f-ck about her.”
For those of you who don’t know, Bentley then eliminates himself tonight and returns briefly in episode 6 but doesn’t stay very long.
While the people backing the show – like Chris Harrison and Mike Fleiss – insist everything between Bentley and Ashley is the real deal, others think the whole situation is scripted for good television.
To add insult to injury, Ashley actually lets Bentley back on the show – he will be making his return in episode 6 to extend his 15 minutes a little longer.

Bentley started off as a good looking guy and got uglier and uglier with each comment he made. Tonight it’s clear that Bentley is the ugliest person in the world, inside and out. I feel so bad for his ex wife, but mostly feel bad for his daughter. She has a douchebag for a dad who is nothing but a liar, cheater, and an overall ugly scumbag. The world could do without a guy like that.

i think it is terrible that the show would do this…..just for ratings. As far as I am concerned, it just makes it look like the show is scripting Bently. The show is definately aware he is not there for the right reasons and yhey should call him out and send him home. Is this going to be a continued story line for every season? A jerk that wants their 10 minutes of fame and in the process hurts the bachelorette or bachelor. Lose this story line for ratings its fisgusting.

I can not believe that the bachelorette would allow this type of person to get on the show just for ratings. I am really disappointed with the producers and those involved. I have been watching this show since the beginning years ago, thinking that they seemed to be trying to help people find love. Now, I see that it is about ratings and money. This is someone’s emotions, feelings and life we are talking about. This girl had the hope that the show was going to wean out the bad ones and give her a good shot at love. Guys, get a clue. It’s all scrpted and Ashley Hebert knew well in advance what he was going to do. It was so obvious when he went to tell her he was leaving that she wasn’t upset, despite the crocadile tears. Did we all watch the same show?? The show is trying to keep viewers and I for one am done with it. If there was ANYTHING else on TV at the same time, the show would have died ages ago…
I couldn’t agree with you more! As a woman, I was outraged that the producers would stoop so low as to promote this sort of theme in their show, all for ratings!! Ashley deserves better than this, and so do all of us women out there who are objectified by men like Bentley! And to spew this sort of demeaning invectives out on public television for all to witness makes ABC a money-grubbing group of men with no respect for women! ABC, you are a loser here, big time!

I live in SLC and I have to tell you that Bentley doesn’t hold a candle to most of the amazing men in this state – - in fact, far from it! Bentley is the type of man that views women as sex objects and/or trophy girlfriends. Well, now the word is out Bentley – - I doubt you’ll have many women wanting to date you now! And who ever said this guy is good looking?!!! He has a weird shaped head, the back of his head slopes down and he thinks playing with his hair will change that look. Sorry, Bentley you resemble the original Neanderthal man, and you won’t be able to shake that image. Ashley, you’re so lucky this guy is out of the picture – - you are an amazing woman who deserves so much better than this egotistical and inconsiderate loser who is trying to sell himself as a ‘player’. He’s not even good at that. I hope his ex-wife who is the Mother of his daughter is addressing this episode with her daughter. Can you imagine how embarrassing this could be for his child? If this wasn’t scripted – there are two things of real concern. One, Bently is a classic narcissistic personality disorder (yes, I am a psychotherapist), very scary…..almost spooky that he is out there. And secondly, I am concerned that Ashley was that immediately attracted to someone who was such a come on. It is evident that she has some real self esteem issues – I hope she is able to grow beyond this, in whatever way she needs…
This is TV – and does mean “entertainment,” but this is ridiculous example for young women. (The only saving grace is that it is such a good example of who to stay away from – and hopefully some idea of how to identify someone like this, so you can run away very fast.)
He needs some help – and I hope he will get it soon, for the sake of his daughter.

Scripted or not scripted, why would anyone deliberately set themselves up to be the most hated man in America? ? ? This must be some sort of twisted strategy for making a place for himself in America’s pop cultural spotlight. He made a choice to portray himself as the most extreme version of every father’s worst nightmare EVER for a potential son in law. Nelly, I agree. I think that there are many women out there with self-esteem issues, and the fact that Ashley can share those concerns publicly helps to bring this issue out in the open. This is a good thing for all of us because it allows us to more easily examine our own view of ourselves. Let’s face it, this is a man’s world, even here in the US, and we women still struggle to prove our worth. I’m cheering for Ashley to conquer her self-esteem issues and to find someone who values her as a woman and an individual.

I think that it’s totally scripted. Bentley is so mean, that it has to be an act, because honestly, what human being could say such horrible and crude things especially on camera for the entire world to see. Who could possibly want to project that sort of image onto themselves? Also, because he emphasizes the mean things that he says so badly that he sounds like an idiot, I can’t help but believe that someone has to be paying him big bucks to simply be on the show and act like a horrible person in order to stir up drama – which is clearly working one way or another. I don’t understand how no one else seems to notice just how hard he clearly is TRYING to be mean and say such horrible things. Also, on Ashley’s part, I can’t help but wonder if she is in on it as well, because whenever I see them together, I sense a strong feeling of detachment and disinterest from Bentley. And when she would confront him about certain issues, he never once gave her a straight answer. How does she not pick up on these things as well? I don’t know… Maybe she is just completely oblivious and insensitive to cues like that. Oh… Drama, drama, drama!

I watched this piece of sh@% of a man on last night’s show. Bentley is relishing in the thought that we are all talking about him. Boosts his ego. I too am ashamed that the networked aired such extreme verbal cruelty to Ashley. My daughter is a survivor of 5 years of domestic violence both physical and verbal and Bentley is a man that shows that thinks it is ok to violate a woman. THIS IS NOT OK. Shame shame on the network. This person just stopped watching this show that now exploits women. I hope that they do not let her watch this on the final rose ceremony.
As a former domestic violence counselor I also feel that it is extremely concerning that a show like this would allow a woman to be verbally abused for the sake of ratings. I do agree that poor Ashley has some huge issues when it comes to picking men but no one deserves to be treated like that. I think most women would have walked off the show and never come back the producers have taken advantage of her because they are aware of her insecurity issues. I honestly was concerned about her being alone with that frightening Bently guy until I realized there was a camera crew there! Seems hard to believe that considering the fact that the viewing audience is probably 99% female, they chose to air an episode like this. I agree with what pretty much everyone else is saying. This show is all about ratings and people getting 15 minutes of fame. Yep I’m done too!
Scripted or not, the real tragedy here is that Bentley has a young daughter who has the misfortune to grow up with a sociopath for a father. I hope his ex-wife is able to get complete physical and legal custody of this child before she is old enough to see how ugly and hateful her birth father is. That being said, I am praying for Bentley to find someone EXACTLY like him!

I am so done with this show and I too am embarassed to ever admit that I watched it but never again. I think it was downright cruel of the producer and Chris Harrison not to intercede after Bentley admitted on camera that he was not the least bit interested in Ashley. It made a sham of this show. He should have been pulled aside and sent home IMMEDIATELY. But no, they had to wait until Ashley developed some feelings for him and then we all had to watch to see her heart broken. I agree that she has a poor self image and is filled with self-doubt. Anyone who watched her in “The Bachelor” could not miss seeing that. So this is all the more reason, the producers should have been more sensitive.
Is this show about someone trying to find love? – apparently not. It is all about creating a lot of drama. I have always loved this show. This season is a huge disappointment. Of course the Bentley thing was scripted, and shame on the producers for bringing an ass like that on the show, when this poor (dumb) girl is actually there trying to find the love of her life. Very cruel trick. Think how she’s going to feel, too, when she watches the season and hears all the horrid comments Bentley made behind her back, making an absolutely fool of her. I have a hard time buying that Ashely, who apparently is an intelligent, educated young woman, would fall for a lazy, sloven, dirtbag like Bentley. I know reality TV brings drama but I thought it was really shady that the show’s producers allowed Bentley to continue KNOWING that he was just playing a game. Ashley really seemed hurt and I think that could have been prevented had the producers stepped in earlier. As time went on, Ashley got closer to Bentley and I think the producers allowed him to stay for the drama but if the show’s purpose is for two people to find love, then they should have sent Bentley home as soon as they found out he was not the least bit interested in Ashley. That is just wrong of the show to do that.

First, if someone takes the time to send you information about a man you can bet 100% of the time it is the truth. Therefore, regardless of how “handsome” the gaffer is, boot him to the curb from the get go. Ashley, too bad that you kept him around as there were some really nice fellas that you could have kept instead. The “phantom of the opera guy” had more going for him!! Totally scripted. Every bit of it. Clearly, Ashley knows what’s going on, in spite of the hurt and tears. Bentley knows what’s going on. Who knows, maybe he is a jerk but he’s definitely being coached to bring that on. Close your eyes for a minute and just imagine the producers or acting coaches or whoever they have on set telling them: “Now say it like this. Oh, that’s good, do that again. Wait, Bentley, we want to get the shot of you leaving the house after it starts to rain. Now, Ashley, can you walk to your bed and curl up in the fetal position to show how devastated you are?”
This is my first time watching the show and it’s so apparent that it’s just one big PR stunt. And how convenient that Ashley is on the cover of People Mag just as this episode hits the air. The weird thing is it’s supposed to be reality tv, but it’s actually more like a daytime soap opera, only with untrained, bad actors. Well, okay, sometimes the acting in soap operas is pretty bad too.
Bottom line: the whole thing is so incredibly boring. The actors (oops, I mean bachelorette and bachelors) just keep repeating the same lines over and over again. And at the end of it I thought: that was a couple of hours of my life I’ll never get back. So here’s what I propose…how about instead of watching this show you listen to music or read a book or take a walk or talk to your friends or do something that you truly enjoy? Because our time is precious, my friends, and you deserve better!

I don’t think it’s the producer’s fault. I think people just really are that stupid.
The entire show, real or scripted, exploited REAL people. It is clear to me that the show is only concerned with ratings. Whether real or scripted is really not the point. Either way, it was wrong to take advantage of people for ratings. I have, for a while, felt like the producers are behind the scenes “helping out” with story lines. This season confirmed my suspicions. When you lose your credibility for being reality tv, ABC, you’ve lost viewers. And worse, when you lose your integrity, you’ve lost everything. I have watched my last episode.
I had never watched any of these shows because I felt they were not genuine. I started watching this Bachelorette & am now convinced they are all bogus…scripted but AMUSING. I figure they just keep having to up the ante…create NEW dramas to keep people tuned in. These shows have been on a long time so at some point, they’ll run out of new things to have happen. It cant be the same old boring thing every single time. My sis has always enjoyed these shows & has told me about them over the years. I told her that eventually, in the quest for NEW STUFF…it’ll reach the point where the winner will admit to being gay & will have “fallen” for one of the other contestants OR…the winner will be a cross dresser or transgendered (nothing against either one but it would be surprising..huh?) & no one knew until the very end OR they’re already secretly married…or the guy will be a polygamist & is looking for a new wife to add to his family….or they’ll end up with a stalker situation on the show OR maybe they’ll think they’re an alien! I guess with enough imagination, they’ll have some other ideas for NEW stuff. Maybe I should write for the show! But yeah…joking aside…(or maybe they’ll take my ideas seriously??!)…I totally think the show is scripted. It’s a hoot to watch & it may be considered “reality tv” but I honestly dont think it’s REAL life. Just my opinion. Fun show though! LOL!
wow THE most ugliest man alive. He should feel ashamed for himself. That’s actually a lot to ask for someone as pathetic as him. I feel horrible for his daughter. Bently is the most ugliest man alive and deserves to be alone the rest of his life. Hopefully, his daughter will be that one day and leave him as well, all by himself
