2018 Winter Olympics To Be Held in Pyeongchang, South Korea

Suck it, Munich and Annecy! According to CNN, Pyeongchang, South Korea has beat out cities in Germany and France for the honor of hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics. The city’s slogan for the games is “New Horizons.”

According to Wikipedia, Pyeongchang County (Pyeongchang-gun) is a county in Gangwon province, South Korea and the third largest county in the country. It is located in the Taebaek Mountains region, and is the most famous winter sports centre of South Korea.

South Korea has never hosted a Winter Olympics, though the capital of Seoul hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988. 2018′s Games will be the first Winter Games in Asia since the 1998 games in Nagano, Japan, and it will be the first Winter Games in an Asian country other than Japan.
