All My Children & One Life to Live to Continue Online!!

Susan LucciSoap fans were devastated when ABC announced that its classics All My Children and One Life to Live would be cancelled. Now, there’s reason to rejoice; both shows will continue making new episodes for viewers to watch online.

According to the Wrap, ABC has teamed up with Prospect Park, the production company that makes Royal Pains, to make new soap episodes available as part of a “new, online network” similar to Hulu.

If all goes according to plan, fans will be able to watch AMC and OLTL online and on internet-enabled TV sets. Both soaps would retain the same length and format. “We are privileged to continue the legacy of two of the greatest programs to air on daytime television, and are committed to delivering the storylines, characters and quality that audiences have come to love for over 40 years. ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are television icons, and we are looking forward to providing anytime, anywhere viewing to their loyal community of millions,” Prospect Park founders Jeff Kwatinetz and Rich Frank said in a statement.

The shows will pick up where they left off, and include the same cast and crew – but there hasn’t been an official statement about who’s in and who’s out. One would imagine the for-internet shows would have to have smaller budgets than their original versions, meaning that casts or paychecks might shrink.

AMC will air its last regular TV episode on September 23, with OLTL finishing up in January 2012.

I want to know when to expect these shows to start streaming?

  5. Colleen Bell says:

I am so happy, I will do what ever it takes to continue watching OLTL. Thank you so much!

  6. This is great news. I have watched for 25 years and am excited to hear that will go to the internet format. I have been watching on the internet the last year anyway.

For all those wanting these shows to end up on SoapNet better think again.. that network is going off the air as well and being replaced by another Disney oriented channel… I wonder if this group could cut deals with Netflix or cable companies for On Demand viewing on TV’s???? http://bit.ly/oGfSx9

  8. I thought the whole point of going off the air was because the shows cost more than they bring in? How exactly would the online ads be able to pay for production and salaries? Maybe if they were able to fire all of the writers (but it doesn’t look like that’s what they’re doing?) and start with some right out of college, would the actors be willing to take a cut when they could probably make full pay on another show with another network? I just don’t see this lasting – I think people are just going to have their hearts broken all over again. And I don’t watch video on my laptop or iPhone – the screen is too small. I’ll only watch if it’s streamed through Netflix. Why does ABC have to be involved anymore? Why can’t they just sell the rights to the production company, so they can do it without those God Awful Writers that killed the shows in the first place?!?! Greed. ABC/Disney is all about GREED. These online soaps are doomed from the start. Wish I could believe in them, but I think it’s foolish for any of us to think anything will be any different since ABC is still behind it all.

  9. I have been watching all my children since Erica graduated from high school and am just devastated that it went off of tv. First thing when I came home I had to watch a.m.c before doing anything else. What a crying shame. If they stream thru internet why not tv. I am sure it’s not any cheaper. That must mean it is ABC. If so shame on you. You have no idea. For people who watch these faithfully you are stabbing the viewers in the back. It should be up to the cast and ABC should feel honored to have such a a long lasting soap opera. Does ABC think it’s going to get a better rating with a talk show or food show. WRONG taking AMC was the dumbest thing a television station could do. They should have taken votes. Dumb dumb dumb. They should rethink it’s not to late to say “hey we made a MISTAKE and we are going to BRING BACK AMC” . That would be the right think todo

  10. I have watched this show from day 1. I was 11 then. Even my kids watch with me. I am disappointed with the ending. But there is hope that it will be on line. I also hope the Chew fails and ABC will be forced to realize what a mistake they have made.

  11. i evol htob fo eseht swohs ym elohw efil. knaht 4 peek meht evila!!!!

  12. I can remember as a little girl my mom putting me to bed for my nap and falling asleep to the opening song, then my children taking their naps to the opening song now my grandchildren. they are family ,i went to high school with jesse and angie ,tad and all. its a way to escape reality after a long day.we do not need more food shows. many people do not have computers that will work like that what do we do . I think an other station should pick it up and get all the viewers the chew and the revolution should not be watched or the view as same owners.
