Tiger Woods Fires Caddy Steve Williams, Williams “Shocked!”

Tiger Woods’ personal life was destroyed in 2009 when it was revealed he was cheating on his wife with over 15 women throughout the course of their marriage. And while the professional golfer struggled to put the pieces of his family back together, his professional life seemed to crumble just as fast.

Since the scandal broke, Tiger has been noticeably off his game on the course. In fact, the last tournament Woods won was the Australian Masters in November of 2009 – just weeks before the sex scandal hit mainstream media.

Now, it seems like the former champ is blaming everyone but himself. He announced yesterday that he had fired his longtime caddy Steve Williams, leaving Williams “shocked” over the news.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change,” Tiger said in a statement adding, “Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend, and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.”

Woods and Williams had been together since March of 1999.

Williams spoke out to CNN affiliate Mediaworks, expressing his shock over the news:

“After 13 [sic] years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock. Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger’s scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries, I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time. ”

Do you think it was a mistake for Tiger to fire Steve Williams?
