President Obama is on FourSquare… is That a Good Idea?

The idea of the President of the United States being on FourSquare and reporting in on his location to the whole world seems… what’s the word I’m looking for here?  Odd? Crazy? Dangerous?  Like something that’s making his secret service detail go prematurely gray?

Well, it’s not as much fun/as crazy as it sounds at first blush.  He’s not actually reporting in on his every mood like some crazy college kid.  There will be no, “oh, cool, the Prez is picking up some ice cream at the 7/11 down the street,” moments here.  And, despite the jokes that are already flying between comedians, Obama is unlikely to make it to mayoral status anywhere.  This is strictly a campaign gimick to help promote his latest tour of the Midwest.

Apparently you’ll have to follow the President through his actual FourSquare page to find him, just searching won’t do it.  Why you’d need to follow him on FourSquare when a quick peek at the nightly news is likely to do just as well, I don’t know, but then again, I’m not an avid FourSquarer.

What do you think?  Are you excited to be able to follow the President’s movements as he campaigns for reelection in 2012?
