John Galliano Guilty Verdict in Anti-Semitism Case: Guilty!

Earlier this year, former head-designer from the esteemed House of Dior, John Galliano, was suspended from his duties after unleashing an anti-Semitic rant in a Paris bar. The video of the incident found its way to youtube and immediately sparked international attention.

In this particular incident (video below), you can see a clearly inebriated Galliano hurling insults towards two women at a table off camera. In his tirade he proclaimed that he “loved Hitler” and that the women’s ancestors should have been “gassed…and dead”.

This is not the first incident of Galliano’s intolerance towards Jewish people, but this is the first time he has been punished for it. Under French law, he was found guilty of “public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity,” as reported by the AP.

Although Galliano was not in attendance at the courthouse when the verdict was handed down, he has been given a suspended fine of $8,432, which means he will have a criminal record, but will not be required to pay the fine. Under French law, he could have received up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $31,622.

Do you think Galliano got off too easy with his sentence?
