Kate Gosselin New Car: Does She Really Need It?

Mom’s are allowed to buy midlife crisis cars too, obviously, but 36 year old moms with eight children under the age of 10 who have been complaining to anyone who will listen that their reality show being canceled will put them in financial straights might want to hold off a few years on the improbably sized sports cars.

Yes, we’re looking at you, Kate Gosselin.

It’s not surprising to see the phrase, “What is she thinking?” attached to Kate Gosselin once again, but this one is a real head scratcher.  The overly press savvy mom/reality television star seems to have made a tactical error in her ploy for public sympathy over the canceling of her reality show, Kate Plus Eight.

“People think we made gazillions of dollars, and we didn’t,” she said, in a recent cover interview with People. “After the show was canceled, I said, ‘I’ll go back to my old nursing job.’ If nothing comes up I’ll do it. But the scary reality is, 12-hour nursing shifts every day wouldn’t let me continue to provide well for eight kids essentially on my own. When you think about it that way, it gets really scary.”

The idea of being a single mother of eight without the kind of resources that have allowed Gosselin to comfortably raise her brood thus far is scary, it’s true.  But Gosselin’s new $50,000 plus Audi two-door sports car doesn’t really fit the struggling, broke single mom image she’s trying to craft here.  Not only would she have to make three trips to get her family anywhere in it, the care and feeding on a car like that is pricey, much less the actual cost of the vehicle.

You could say it’s no one’s business but Kate Gosselin’s what she chooses to drive, but when you fight as hard as Kate has to put yourself in the spotlight, you’ve gotta expect some raised eyebrows why you cry broke while buying flashy and impractical sports cars.

  1. Maybe she got a job…I read she got a gig on The Talk.
    Also..watch your use of apostrophes!

  2. She bought the car USED over 6 months ago and traded in one of her gas-guzzling SUV’s for it. Media has known about it for 6 months, too but just decided to make a big deal out of it right now! Maybe she could have chosen a less fancier car, but that’s not MY or anyone elses choice to make but Kates.

    • Is that you Kate? I’m one of the mediocre people who raised her children with an ordinary job. Signed: Happy mother of productive and beautiful children.

  3. It’s none of anyone’s business what type of car she decides to buy. Maybe she’s making an impractical choice, but really, who cares???? This article is really not newsy, is it???

  4. It’s not about the car as such. It’s about her public declaration that (in spite of the millions earned in the past years) she is nearly destitute. And she is not single. She is divorced with her former husband paying support. If she really clipped coupons and didn’t buy unnecessary items, as she loved to tell us she did not that long ago, and worked even part time she would still be much better off than most of her fans.

  5. I’m guessing it was an Audi TT.. nice car..

  6. If you are going to cry the blues about how you are going to struggle to support 8 kids unless someone gives you a talk show…then yes, it is everyone’s business that you buy yourself an impractical sports car that will never accomodate the 8 kids you claim come first. The woman’s sense of entitlement is never ending. Hope these kids ditch her as soon as they are legally able to…because honey, people are interested in your children, NOT YOU! How about a new series….”Eight Without Kate is Great!”

  7. This woman is greedy and foolish. Her previous life would not yield in a decade what she made in one year yet she is “struggling”. Downsize from 8000 square feet to 3000 or so and live within your means.
