Serena Williams US Open 2011 Outburst (WATCH!)

Serena lost the 2011 US Open Final – and she also lost her cool during the start of her second set against Samantha Stosur. According to The Daily Mail, Serena received a code violation for yelling “come on” before the ball had reached her opponent, and since it was a “deliberate hindrance,” she lost the point.

Serena, who wore a bright watermelon outfit and dangling chandelier earrings, asked for a replay, but umpire Eva Asderaki refused. Then Serena launched into an intense outburst. First, Serena asked, “Aren’t you the one that screwed me over last time here? Yeah you are,” referring to a 2009 incident at the US Open Semifinal, when a verbal attack on a lineswoman cost her a point penalty.

As the umpire ignored her, Serena continued her rant: “Seriously, you have it out for me? I promise you, that’s not cool. That’s totally not cool. I truly despise you.” Later: “If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you’re out of control. You’re a hater and you’re just unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow. What a loser. You get a code violation because I express who I am. We’re in America last I checked. Can I get a water? Or am I going to get violated for a water? Really, don’t even look at me. I promise you don’t look at me… Don’t look my way.”

Check out the Serena’s US Open 2011 outburst, which begins around 2:50:

When is she gonna learn??

  1. I only hope they finally realize what a terrible example to young people and the sport she is. They need to kick her out of tennis all together. She is a sad individual who has been pampered all her life.

    • Kick her out of tennis! Are you serious. Serena does a great deal for womens tennis. So kicking her out would do more harm than good. I can think of a heck of a lot more people in sports that are really an “embarrassment” and need to be kicked out… .

    • CWHEELER you need to brush up on your sports history. Serena and Venus are a success story being from the inner city and rising to greatness as champions in a sport dominated by whites. She wasn’t pampered. She’s made her way in tennis by hard work and is most likely tired of having uptight umpires unable to handle her expressiveness. It’s no biggie…she sleeps comfortably now with the security of her multimillion dollar empire. This outburst is but a blip on her journey. I am sure you think when Andy Roddick went off on an umpire last week that was perfectly okay because he is a white male. Should he also be kicked out of tennis? I think yes. When is the last time he won a tournament? Prejudice….racist much cwheeler?!

      • Cwheeler is obviously wrong, but YOU’RE the racist here. She said nothing about Serena’s race being the justification for kicking her out of the sport. You’re just assuming it. Want me to break down the word assume for you?

For the record, everyone who acts this way, black, white, man, woman, is a disgrace and an embarassment. If you think she’s the only one who gets criticized you must not remember the Ryan Harrison articles from a few weeks ago.

  2. I think it is definitely understandable how Serena felt. I have watched the US open all week and I know others have done the exac same thing and they arent treated this way. I think she gets treated unfairly quite often. Sometimes I still cant help but wonder if its racial.

    • I totally agree with Sharon

    • Please post links to videos where one player yells just before the other player hits the ball, and they didn’t lose the point. It’s a rule. Simple. Serena should have known it was a rule. Besides that it was poor sportsmanship.

    • You have got to be kidding. What has this to do with race? She was completely wrong, disrespectful and rude to a person that was merely doing her job. Who is she to tell anybody not to look at her? I just can’t wait until she is too old to play.

  3. Serena i felt da umpire was an a–hole ur outburst was due 2 her insensitivity what u said 2 her she deserved!

  4. Serena is a talented woman with an amazing gift..nothing will ever change that.

  5. Yes sharon i so agree with u a great match spoilt by an umpire who should jus not hav been in dat chair!!!!!!!!!!

    • thanks, I agree with you also,

    • How exactly was the match spoiled by the umpire, and what is your justification for your comment that she “should jus not hav been in dat chair”? The ump followed the rule. That’s her job. Serene even admitted that that point didn’t matter. She ended up winning that game.

Serena’s a great player, but a poor sport, and a failure as a mature adult.

  6. This is to you cwwheeler. Why do hate Serens? Please, speak the truth. Is it because she is black, rich and beautiful inside and out. When are you people going to stop? The scrutiny you have put these two sisters under is depressing.

  7. Maxine theres always one just like you who try to play the race card.. I dont see color like you I see human beings Grow up !

  8. hole in your head fred says:

    she is a nigg her

    • wow.

    • I am embarassed to read these racist remarks. And yes, racism definitely exists in tennis. I was an all american tennis player in university. I am white – Scottish, Irish, Polish, Ukranian, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see and hear that this sport and culture is predominantly elitist and exclusive by nature. I have black cousins and didn’t think about it too much until I moved to the states, Florida and Mississippi. I couldn’t believe the ignorance that still exists.

I remember playing against the predominantly black university tennis team and my match was close, and my opponent hit me in the back with a ball when I was walking away. Of course I defended myself and messed with her a bit by hitting the ball over her head a few times instead of hitting it right to her. But I didn’t take it personally because at the same time it was really really really obvious what was playing out. It was an extension of a dynamic of what was playing out in broader society. The contrast of race and race relations was obvious, and in this case, bubbling to the surface. She didn’t know I come from a mixed family, and my sister’s partner is african, but I can sure understand why I got lumped in with the image.

The other thing to note is that we are not all graceful all the time. Women are tough, and we fly off the handle too, just like men. I am not condoning Serena’s behaviour, but seriously, there are a lot of levels of understanding required here. And at least she doesn’t outright cheat, which a lot of white tennis players and others do, and it is not challenged all that much, just part of what you deal with in the sport.

I will not be reading any replies to my post. I don’t ever post to these things because mainly my time is better spent – there is enough racism and ignorance to deal with in my family, neighbourhood, community, workplace, etc…

but all that being said – much love and unity to you all

  9. if only money could buy class, enough is enough from this foul mouthed ungrateful spoiled brat.
Tennis is supposed to be a sport played by gentlemen and ladies, this women is so ugly when she does not get her way. She is not winning any more and if she is angry for losing she needs to quit. She has already lost the respect of most tennis fans for berating the judges for years, now she has lost her dignity and does not deserve to be included in the most refined sport of tennis. Yeah of course some one will play the racist card which is the racist thing to do. Only racist’s do that.

  10. She angry so time, she is good

  11. black people should not be allowed to play tennis for this reason, getting ganster with a line judge, what a joke this ugly baboon is

    • “black people shouldnt be allowed to play tennis”! , you are a joke. and then you call us baboon. Its funny how so many of the comments on this page says rascism doesnt exist and then comments such as this comes along to prove that it does exist. DONT categorize all people, or another race of people because. I definitely am no “gangsta”.

  12. francalvert@hotmail.com says:

Sad to see so many dump on serena williams. While obama is certainly a pampered individual who is doing the country a disservice by holding the office, serena williams is a personal and professional role model for both black and white alike. ONE thing I particularly admire about her, is that she is NOT a racist As can be seen by her choice of friends who include all races. She is a refreshing individual in these times of turmoil. Leave her alone!

  13. Serena Williams recent outburst justifies the USTA suspending her. So disappointing and disgraceful. American athletics are so damn entitled. The racial overtone is a mask for what the real issue is; let’s face it, she’s over the hill and a lousy sport and representative for the US. The lack of respect—–when clearly she was in violation of the rules—-is really unfortunate.

  14. I agree that Serena’s outburst was wrong and have no problem with the fine. Nevertheless I strongly disagree with the umpire’s call. Serena’s “come on” in no way hindered Stosur’s playing the point. Stosur reacted extremely well to Serena’s obvious winner, and it was amazing that she was able to get her racket on the ball. There is no reason to suppose that Serena’s “come on” was an intentional effort to hinder Stosur. Giving Stosur this point, which had been clearly and fairly won by Serena, could have been very pivotal and could have killed Serena’s chances of coming back in the match, putting her, as it did, a break down to Stosur, who was playing extremely well. The umpire by giving this pivotal game to Stosur excercised very poor judgment at a very unfortunate time. I can understand how upset and cheated Serena was feeling. Nevertheless her public, verbal display of her anger must be punished. I suspect the low fine imposed was in recognition of the special circumstances of the offense, that is in recognition that the umpire’s call was a very poor one with a potentially devastating effect on Serena’s struggle to come back in the match.

  15. You really make it appear really easy along with your presentation however I to find this topic to be actually something which I think I might never understand. It kind of feels too complex and extremely large for me. I am having a look forward on your subsequent post, I?ll attempt to get the hold of it!
