Minka Kelly is one of the fresh faces out there with the potential to be a real star, but, as a recent interview with Cosmopolitan reveals, life hasn’t always been easy street for the beautiful actress.
“She was 5ft 11, legs up to her ears, gorgeous,” Kelly told Cosmo when asked about her mother, Maureen, who worked a variety of jobs when her daughter was young, including stripping. “She got along on that for as long as she could.”
Maureen Kelly raised her daughter as alone, though Kelly’s father, one time Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay, apparently tried to be involved with his daughter’s life.
“It wasn’t like he didn’t want to be part of our lives,” Kelly told Cosmo. ”He wanted to try to do the family thing. It was my mum who was too busy having fun.”
It’s easy to see how Kelly’s relationship with her mom could be, as she put it, “pretty complicated.” That didn’t mean, however, that Kelly wasn’t there for her mother when she was dying of colon cancer three years ago.
“By the time she passed I was holding her,” she said. “I was with her until her last breath. We made it.”
