Could you imagine being Lady Gaga’s little sister? 19 year-old Natali Germanotta is the younger sibling of the star, and living in her meat dress-shaped shadow isn’t always easy. In the latest issue of Teen Vogue, Natali dishes about what it’s like to be the Pippa to Gaga’s Kate, including the crazy outfit Gaga wore to Natali’s high school graduation!
It seems as though the sister doesn’t fall far from the egg. Every day, Natali, a fashion student at Parsons, wears a floor-length black outfit she refers to as “witchypoo.” (Perhaps we’ll see her on Project Runway soon??) Still, Natali says of Gaga’s clothes: “Some of the stuff she wears I’d be like, ‘No, never,’” she says.
Natali has mostly stayed out of the spotlight, save for a tiny cameo in Gaga’s “Telephone” video, and she hasn’t asked Gaga (whom she calls “Stefi”) to help her with her fashion career. “For now I’d like to stay in school,” Natali says – though once Gaga did turn a stiletto Natali made for a school project into a shoe-shaped piano she played during a performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. “I was at my parents’ house sobbing, like, ‘Oh my God,’” Natali said of watching the show. She hasn’t ruled out working with her sis in some capacity, but not as her stylist; “She changes 50 times a day,” Natali says.
As for that infamous high school graduation…Gaga showed up (to a church!) in a flesh-colored unitard with rhinestone embellishments and a beekeeper-inspired headpiece replete with black netting. “The teachers were like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t handle this family,’” Natali says. But don’t slam Gaga for taking the spotlight; Natali explains: “She asked me, ‘Should I dress really conservative and look not like myself, or should I do it over-the-top and freak everybody out?’ And I was like, ‘The latter, definitely the latter.’”
I doubt we’ve heard the last from Natali…making weird stuff famous is in her genes!
