Are you one of thousands who were devastated when the Fox network cancelled Arrested Development? Well, things may be looking up for you. The show’s creator, Mitchell Hurwitz, has revealed his idea for a new series that will precede the much-anticipated Arrested Development film.
It feels like this talk of a movie has been going on for ages, with various cast members mentioning the project in numerous interviews, but now there’s official word and a loose timeline.
Although the nine or ten-part TV series could be released in late 2012, cast member Jason Bateman recently tweeted that early 2013 is a more probable launch date. Also, Hurwitz tells The New York Times that the project “Requires studios to work together that don’t typically work together….Perhaps the series is in the fall. This isn’t my decision.”
But if early accounts are to be believed, this spinoff will be worth the wait. After all, the characters have all had five years to grow, which should provide more than enough hilarious fodder for the new series. Let’s hope whichever network picks this up will help it attract the ratings it deserves this time around.
