Billy Bob Thornton’s estranged daughter, Amanda Brumfield, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. People reports that the sentence came after Brumfield was convicted of aggravated manslaughter of a child in May. Brumfield’s goddaughter, 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia, died in 2008 while Brumfield was babysitting her.
Brumfield, 32, was initially charged with murder but found not guilty. She has maintained that the baby hit her head when she fell trying to climb out of a playpen, but the prosecution claimed such a head wound would not have been caused by a short fall.
“I miss Olivia just as much as anybody does,” Brumfield said. “Olivia brought joy to our family from the moment she was born. Olivia always was, is and will be my little girl.”
Olivia’s mother, Heather Murphy, told the Orlando Sentinel that the sentence was “more than I expected.” She also told reporters, “None of it satisfies me. It doesn’t matter…I won’t ever see Olivia again.”
According to Reuters, Brumfield is the first daughter of Thornton, who has been married five times. His publicist says he “has had no contact with her for quite some time.”
