Heroes Star Zachary Quinto made a big announcement last week when he revealed to the world that he was gay. Now, days after the news hit mainstream media, Zachary says he’s “in awe” of the amount of support he’s received from friends, family and fans.
“I have spent the day in awe of this outpouring of support and resonance. We. Are. In this. Together. NEVER FORGET! I am deeply moved” he tweeted yesterday.
His words of enthusiasm were combined with a blog entry he posted this weekend revealing who inspired him to come out to the world.
Quinto says he “felt indescribable despair” after learning of Jamey Rodemeyer’s story and subsequent suicide last month.
“In light of jamey’s death – it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality,” he writes.
“Jamey Rodemeyer’s life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner – i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world.”
Zachary – and Jamey – are true inspirations in this world. We hope Jamey’s memory continues to increase awareness of the importance of equality.
