Feeling bad for Camille Grammer, whose husband cheated on her with a 29 year-old he married months later? Kelsey Grammer painted a new picture of the story in an interview with Piers Morgan. From THR: “I have to tell you, the Real Housewives was my parting gift to her,” Grammer said. “It was my way of saying, ‘Look, you always wanted to be famous. Here you go.’”
Unlike the way the show portrayed their divorce as a big surprise for Camille, Kelsey says their marriage was ending before she even started the show. “I remember having one conversation where I said, ‘Well, don’t worry about it. After the first season, you can do the Divorced Wives of Beverly Hills next season,’” Kelsey said.
He also said that Camille was more in love with fame than with him. “I think she married me because I was Frasier,” he said, adding that “Camille asked for a divorce really almost the first day we were married. If you say you want a divorce enough times, you’re going to get one.”
He and Camille now have “no contact.”
The evolution of Camille’s reality persona has certainly been an interesting one. Last year, she became a household name when she appeared on the first season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Camille’s arrogance was rather off-putting at first, though after a few episodes it was clear that she harbored major insecurities about people only talking to her because of her famous husband. By the end of the season, her dissolving marriage and Kelsey’s refusal to try counseling made her (surprisingly) one of the most sympathetic characters on the show. This season, Camille is somehow the normal one as the formerly likable Kyle Richards has turned into a petty Mean Girl around Brandi Glanville.
