Lauren Alaina Flubs National Anthem on Thanksgiving (WATCH)!
American Idol star Lauren Alaina still has something to learn about performing, it seems, after the Thanksgiving Detroit Lions/Green Bay Packers game at which she was meant to sing the National Anthem.
Unlike long time professional Christina Aguilera, who mangled the lyrics of The Star Spangled Banner at last years Super Bowl but calmly kept singing, Alaina forgot the words and then let her nerves get to her, rather than pushing through.
“What so proudly we hailed, through the twi…” she trailed off into silence. The singer caught up with the music again at “Whose bright stripes and bright stars…” and the sold-out stadium cheered loudly for her save.
While her fumble has caught a lot of attention, she’s a top 10 Twitter trending topic, a lot of it has been sympathetic, as it should be. Anyone who has performed for a live audience knows that it’s hard to keep going after a mistake throws you off.
Brian Baumgartner, Kevin Malone on NBC comedy “The Office,” knows the feeling too.
“Oh Lauren Alaina… Poor you. Poor poor you….” he tweeted.
Of course, not everyone has been so kind, but Alaina seems to be handling it gracefully. She responded to a supportive Tweet from fellow “Idol” alum, Kellie Pickler with:
“Thank you so much. I’m not a robot. I have No excuses. I messed up. You know what can ya do. At least I didn’t fall down again.”
