Mindy McCready Kidnaps her Son, Says She’s 7 Months Pregnant!

Country singer Mindy McCready is facing possible jail time if she doesn’t obey a court order to return her five year old son to her mother, who has custody of the boy.  McCready reportedly can’t return to Florida because she is seven months pregnant with twins.

McCready losing custody of her son isn’t a surprise, given the rough ride she’s had over the past few years with addiction, spousal abuse and suicide attempts.  The singer seems determined to regain custody however, now that her life has apparently stabilized.  Her boyfriend of two years, music producer David Wilson, is father to the twins.

“The court system in Florida is tragically corrupt….. Maybe if I speak out and stand up for my child it will keep other parents from having to fight the same corruption to protect they’re children,” McCready told The New York Daily News.

McCready is legally allowed only supervised visits with her son at her father’s home – her mother has legal custody of the child.  The fact that McCready had taken the child was discovered on Tuesday when a case worker made an unannounced visit to her father’s Florida residence and couldn’t find the child, according to a spokeswoman with the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida who spoke to The News.

The boy has been determined to be safe by the authorities, but the local police will not clarify where mother and child are at the moment.

“We had contact with her via Skype last night,” Cape Coral Police Lt. Tony Sizemore told The News. “We know she is with the child and where they are. The family court judge has been made aware of the situation.”

McCready told Access Hollywood that her lawyers were trying to sort through legal red tape.  Her take on what’s happening seems to vary from calling it a misunderstanding to treating taking her son as an act of a protective mother fighting the law to care for her child, depending on the interview.  McCready has made claims before that her son was in physical and emotional danger at her mother’s house.

What do you think?  Should McCready be given custody of her son?
